World music

I find music should be about listening to the world. I am a keen rock music fan, but keep an open mind and listen to all sorts of music. Bands like Tinariwen from Mali, Thomas Mapfumo from Zimbabwe and Rachid Taha from Algeria/ France provide uplifting rhythms and rock with more attitude than the current rock bands. World music dosn,t get the promotion it deserves, so most people are unaware of it.
Just keep an open mind and experience the rhythms of the world.

I'm right there with you. I don't really listen to much "rock" music much anymore. There are a few rock bands I love, and still buy their stuff when it comes out [Pearl Jam], but on the whole I don't really bother with it much. Anymore I listen to a lot of world music, and folk/roots music from all over the world, including the US and British Isles.

You listed some great stuff. Malian guitar is very soulful and beautiful.

YOU NEED TO CHECK OUT GEOFFREY OREYAMA

    Market Day
    River
    Ye Ye Ye
    Nomad
    Lapwony
    Land Of Anaka
    Exile

Supreme songs, and his voice is unreal
  • If you haven't checked out this band, give it a try. They are on tour right now and I just think they are one of the most unique sounds I've heard in a while.
You can spend your time alone, re-digesting past regrets, oh
Or you can come to terms and realize
You're the only one who cannot forgive yourself, oh
Makes much more sense, to live in the present tense
