Having not heard much of The Gutter Twins and being a fan of Mark Lanegan, what songs/Album should I start with?

There's one album, "Saturnalia," and one EP, "Adorata." I love 10 of the 12 songs on the album. Adorata is all covers except two songs, which are exceptional. The album is available for sale and download pretty much everywhere. The EP is download only...it was initially an itunes exclusive, so you can get it there, but you should go to the Sub Pop website instead and get it in 320kbps instead of itunes' crap quality.

get the album 'saturnalia.' i bought it on a whim because they were at lollapalooza and got hooked.

just be careful. i picked up saturnalia in late july, and since then i have bought 4 afghan whigs albums (congregation, gentleman, black love, 1965), 4 twilight singers albums (twilight, blackberry belle, she loves you, powder burns) and a greg dulli solo album. that man is addictive!
she was underwhelmed, if that's a word
  • I'd recommend buying both Saturnalia and Adorata. Both are excellent albums, hands down in my opinion. The only song I really don't dig off of Saturnalia is Front Street (I think it's a hell of a lot better live). Other than that, it's all gold - particularly the songs where Lanegan is on lead vox, but I'm also biased :).

I am so old school... I hate buying albums online and downloading :( What are the odds of Adorata and Live at the Triple Door getting an actual cd release?

Highly unlikely as of now, much to my dismay (and to most of their fans on the SFR board). :( For now, the best option is to get in the best available quality (320kbps) and create your own cd artwork. Hopefully after the next series of shows they do in Europe, they'll see the light and offer a limited cd release of each.

i thought about buying 'stitch in time' and adorata and putting them on one disc together. i guess if i've got no alternative i'll have to suck it up!

  • This is not helpful for your cause, but I must go on record as saying that the gutter twins are fucking amazing.

    thanks, and enjoy your discovery.

    (then check out electric six)

You can purchase A Stitch in Time on cd though...so def do that! Well worth it!!! It should be available from just about every web retailer.

I hear you, I'm the same way. Unfortunately I don't foresee Adorata being released on anything else but digital. Trust us though, you will be happy you broke down to make the download. I know I was!

just re-listened to this album today, really good.  Some of the songs that Lanegan sings on the cd sound a lot like Josh Homme.  Almost thought one of them was Homme at first.  I don't know why i didn't see them when they came around.  I remember hearing about it.  Maybe it was the weather or something.  Maybe they'll tour again?
