Go check out Afghan Whigs. Specificially "Up in It" of 1990.

    Top Tracks of said album:

    Retarded
    Southpaw
    Amphetamines and Coffee

    Hopefully you'll enjoy.
  • Built To Spill have a new album out, damn is this album good.

And Modest Mouse are great as well.
Well, do you need a lot of what you've got to survive?

well, if you'll take this with an open mind, I've got a bunch of suggestion I'd be glad to mention

SInce you seem to really like rock/roll, I'm going to start off with a few from that genre you might or might not like

Pavement - Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain
Built To Spill - Perfect From Now On
    Slint - Spiderland
    Destroyer - Streethawk: A Seduction
The Matthew Good Band - Beautifl Midnight
    Deep Purple - Machine Head
    Pxies - Doolittle
    Boris - Akuma No Uta
    Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation
At The Drive-In - Relationship Of Command

Try out some hip/hop or sampling maybe?
    DJ Shadow - Endtroducing...
Public Enemy - Fear Of A Black Planet
    RJD2 - Deadringer
    NWA - Staight Outta Compton

And some more experimental/out there type stuff
    Animal Collective - Sung Tongs
    Godspeed You! Black Emperor
    Sonic Youth - SYR 1
    Stereolab - Emperor Tomato Ketchup
A Silver Mt. Zion - Born Into Trouble as the Sparks Fly Upward

I dunno, sometimes lists area bitch to digest, but I really don't know what more you want. If you'd like me to talk you through some of these, just take your pick

Nah, heavy is good. I like a lot of metal :)

Cheers for all the suggestions, there’s a lot of stuff mentioned which I already like which is a good sign that I’ll probably like the stuff that I haven’t heard too :)

Already like the stuff on your hiphop list echoes but I haven’t heard RJD2 so I’ll give that a listen.

i'll third it. I figure the more people second and third a disc, the more likely the original poster will seek it out.

Hot Snakes - Suicide Invoice. This CD is aggresive rock/punk along the Fugazi vein.

These 2 for sure!!! Do not deprive yourself of the genius works of the Matthew Good Band, "Beautiful Midnight" is one of the best rock albums ever. Check out "Underdogs" too if you like what you hear. At The Drive-In's "Relationship of Command" is a must have too, some of my favorite vocals ever.

I don't think any of these threads pop up without me or Echoes reccomending the Matthew Good Band... so check them out you lazy Pearl Jam fans!!!
    Which came first,
the bad idea or me befallen by it?

Damn, just wanted to say "solid list, man!!". Many of my favorite cds are on there! Just add Explosions in the sky and you've got my vote.

Thanks! I could have kept going on for ages and ages and ages but I just kind of decided to keep it a little more managable. And yeah, The Earth is Not A Cold, Dead Place is outstanding stuff. Love it so much.
