im not going to read through 3 pages of people bashing the band.

so i really dont know whats been said after the first half of the first page.

    with that being said.

i dont see what the problem is with the guys wanting to go on.

jerry wrote most of the songs, and they are just as much if not more his than layne's.

why should he give up something that means so much to him , because layne couldnt kick ?

they are his songs. he should be "allowed" to play them.

i miss LS just like everyone else. but its fucked up to say that Jerry cant play the songs that he wrote in a band he started because Layne was a junkie, and fucked up his life.

    just my opinion.

    flame on.

I agree with this sentiment 100%. It's a rough sentiment, but it's true.

No flaming. As much as most of us miss Layne, you are 100% correct. I would rather have Jerry and Layne together but at least Jerry is still writing songs and making great music. IMO, Duvall is about as good of a replacement as you're gonna get.

It can come across as harsh but it is hard not to agree with the wolf's post.

Quickly looking at the details of AIC's studio albums, it appears that about half the songs are credited individually to Cantrell while the rest are Cantrell/Staley or a combination of the rest of the band members. I only counted 3 songs credited individually to Staley.

So I don't see how Cantrell could be criticized for playing AIC songs or continuing as AIC. Hell, I'm sure he's been through enough already with Layne. Wasn't AIC members all pretty patient with Layne's problems?

    Okay just look.

Do we loose anything by the guys making music still? We arn't forgetting Layne and never will.

I was too young to see AIC but they reformed and I saw semi-aic 2 times in 2006 and my face was melted by the end of each show becuase of Jerry. It's great they are still making music and that I am able to witness these great muscians in my lifetime.

    /thread.

I totally agree Ed, that show at the Astoria was incredible by any standard. Those songs are far too good not to be played live again, it would be a fucking crime.
  • I agree as well. I saw AIC in 2006 too and here's the thing - the guys in the band aren't trying to forget Layne either. I felt that they were honoring him by keeping his music alive. They were a band of brothers - they lost one. I got the distinct impression that they were keeping the music alive for layne. I mean I know you read into it what you want to see - but I felt immense respect for layne from his fellow bandmates and Duvall throughout the concert. I'm glad they are still making music together. I look forward to the new album.

The thing is this whole "should they go on without Layne" argument is exactly the same as it was in 2006. The status of the "new" CD hasn't changed since then either. This whole thing feels very stale.

Thread title should be changed to "The 4 remaining members of Alice in CHains with some shitty singer you have never heard of trying to make a quick buck before they are no longer relevant studio update"

or maybe they're just a few guys that love making music...
This thinking is why American Idol is so successful - everyone loves to bash someone else. it feels good doesnt it? pathetic.

AIC with a different singer is better than no AIC at all, so no complaints from me. Can't wait for the new one.

Not neccessarily...let's hear what they put out first. I for one thought that, except for a few songs on the first album, the majority of Jerry Cantrell's solo stuff was pretty mediocre. If it continues along those lines, I'll be rather uninterested.

That being said, IF Duval can inject his own soul into the music, and AIC can create something new and exciting, I'll be as happy as anyone. I'm starving for some good hard rock.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think most of the songs on the new album were written by Layne and Jerry. Maybe my hopes are a little too high about the album but I think it will be great.

No flaming here. Actually I have shared your opinion since the reunion. It really does suck when a lead singer of a band passes, but fact is Bands do continue with new vocalists and have been doing it for years and years. (A/C/DC, for example) so this is nothing new. I think Jerry, Mike, and Sean have every right to continue, they were as much a part of AIC as Layne was. Fact is, (and this is gonna sound mean, but true), Layne choose to do drugs, let addiction take hold of his life and kill him. That sucks. However, why should the rest of the guys sit around? As people said, Jerry wrote most of the music and even sang some lead. The 2006 tour sold out nearly every stop, and they did a tribute to Layne, so he is very much still a part of the band in everyone's heart. He is not forgotten. I believe the 2006 reunion was an experiment to see how the fans would adjust/ react to AIC reuniting. The response was overwhelming ly positive overall and that is what has lead to the band doing a new record.

Video update from the studio! Man, Jerry needs to lose that beard.
  • Well, I for one am psyched! AIC is an awesome band! And ofcourse Layne was one of a kind and I definitely miss him, but I dig what the band did in the past few years, they showcased Layne's/Jerry's song, I also felt like they were honoring him and that's great and I think William isn't bad at all, like someone said on here, he's talented in his own right...And also I'd hate if the boys of AIC that are left, are just going to waste their talents just like that, not making great music, because they're really a bunch of talented musicians and it'd be a travesty if they didn't make more music in an already musically retarded world! We need some AIC, me thinks....So I can't wait for the new album :D

  • Plus we are forgetting one major thing here, bands like Nickleback and Hinder have been ripping off AIC and other Seattle band's sounds for years, how fucking cool would it be if AIC came back with an absolute monster of an album that could bring decent rock music back to the mainstream?
