I'll go with Avocado all day long, but this is indeed a good album too..... I cannot fucking believe that Tool hasn't released another one since. I have read the excuses from the band, but I'm not sure I really believe them. Artists don't just shut down like that because they are busy with a lawsuit. Not artists who aren't completely blocked, anyway.

Yeah, a lot of times they do shutdown. Maybe not creatively, but as a working band. They do it so the new material they create isn't subject to whatever deal they're fighting against.

They've always taken awhile and now they're adding in legal complications, different ventures outside the band and maybe some creative struggles of an aging band. Pushing 10 years is a little silly, but it's no different than other bands that have broke up and came back years later for a reunion album.

Avocado has some decent stuff, but it's not even close to 10k Days, which I'm not even a big fan of as Tool albums go.

The legal battle is over. Tool finally won. There's a good analogy in this article that explains the legalities in layman's terms.

My friend sat with adam at a wedding not to long ago and adam told him they were in some legal situation and have to wait for that to end. Then they were gonna finish the album. Legal situation is over, Maynard is recording his vocals and hopefully soon we'll have a new tool album.

I don't know the exact details, but insurance companies piss me off how they consistently try and worm out of their end of the deal with bullshit.

Yeah, I know. That was the excuse I was talking about. I just find it impossible to believe that artists can just shut down the art for 9 years like that just because of a lawsuit. I know that's what they say, but it seems weird to me.

Inspiration seems to wax and wane in even the most creative of people. In any case, whether this is related to legal issues, or just a lack of creativity - we are destined to never know. So, on that note, I'm going to continue enjoying the shit out of the Tool repertoire, expect nothing more, and be excited if it shows up. :)

Well, it was originally a suit by a former friend & employee, so they took out an insurance policy in hopes the insurer would back them in the suit. The the insurance company turned around and sued tool. Then tool had to countersue the insurance company. And millions of dollars, thousands of hours later, they are finally free. I can't imagine the stress of trying to put an album together while all that is going on. It wasn't just some cut and dry civil case between two parties, it was a multi-layered battle and tool was being screwed in every direction. I doubt they had the mental energy to worry about putting an album together thru all that.

Maybe Maynard has a drinking problem and didn't want to record.

Owning a vineyard would definitely make that drinking problem a tough one to manage!

Hopefully they remained a little angry throughout this ordeal and the album will reflect some of the passion that made their other albums awesome.

We have seen some of our favorite bands lose their edge and write of love and honey. We don't need a love and honey album from Tool.

I don't think we have to worry about lollipops and dolphins. Adam Jones has said its pretty fuckin heavy, more metal than anything they've ever done.

Am I the only one who could picture a heavy metal cover of Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows being damn good?

I thought Lateralus was a cleverly disguised "sunny" and positive album. Ticks and Leeches being the exception, of course.
