  • Top 10 Reasons to Play Charlottesville

    1. State of the art new arena, holds 15,000. Great sound, perfect size.
    2. You like basketball? Maybe we can arrange a pick up game with Ralph Sampson.
    3. Politically motivated? We are home to Jefferson, Madison and Monroe.
    4. Ed wants to rant? No problem...we even have a First Amendment Wall at the center of our downtown so you can express yourself.
    5. We don't go gaga over celebrities. Feel free to walk around without being bothered. Just ask Howie Long, Sissy Spacek, The Rock...
    6. Dave like us. Yes we are home of the DMB. We can even point out which bar he tended until the 3rd cd...
    7. Springsteen, NIN, RHCP, Elton John all played here this year.
    8. GAs is not cheap, and I can't keep justifying driving 1,000 miles each summer to take in PJ shows.
    9. A real University town. Come stroll the Grounds of Mr. Jefferson's University. At least that's what they tell me, I couldn't get in.....
    10. Strong fan base. I personnally know of at least 8 PJ fans who live there. See, the Band only has to sell 14,992 tickets.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of
arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to
slide in sideways, BBQ sandwich in one hand, cold beer in the other,
body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "Woo Hoo what a
    ride" ! Unknown

no, what I'm saying is that there is no point in spending money and time to play in Texas where we all know McCain will be the vote, you have to change more than 50% of the populations opinion, and lets face it...pearl jam cant change texas to a blue state

    but...

here in Virginia...the northern VA is extremely liberal, and the rest of virginia is mostly conservative, and its up in the air on which part of virginia will win this vote...if we can gain another 500-1000 people to vote obama, Virginia will be a blue state

a couple hundred people are going to make the difference in virginia? i suppose that's possible, however unlikely it may seem

and no, you don't have to change 50% of the population of the state of texas, or georgia or north carolina, either. states that go red by majority in presidential elections are not 100% republican, just a majority, which could be 51-49. plus, every one point swing in your direction is actually a two point swing: one more for you, one less for them...

in '04, texas voted about 4.5 million for bush, about 3 million for kerry, out of a total of about 7.5 million. so, knowing that you only have to swing half of the difference for a dead heat, that's about 750,000, or about 10% of the total voters....

PJ is not doing a vote for change tour this year, so who cares if the state is blue or red? Every state has PJ fans, so I agree with Dangerboy, they just came to VA- play some where else

it actually will make a difference in virginia...in last election 1.7 million voted bush, and 1.4 million voted kerry, and that was BEFORE the liberal movement in virgnia

i just dont think its worth to the time to convert another million in texas (4.5 vs 2.8)

its not about where the pearl jam fans are for the band if they were to decide to do this, its about how they can help Obama win, and by helping him Virginia is on the list for shows or any other support

I would agree with you on that, but they're not doing any more shows this year, which means no VFC tour, which means no shows until after the election is over- so again, who cares if the the state red or blue?

haha, I understand that, but PJ, the ten club, the mods here- all have said that there will be no more shows this year. Do you really think PJ will come to VA to just play that one show before the election?

Trust me, I hope it happens, but I highly doubt it
