I strongly urge you to give BSSM another chance....If that doesn't do it for you check out By The Way.

    By the way was weak...

BSSM was their big album, but not their best.

try Room on fire (Aeroplane kinda blows but..), mother's milk or heck...just get the greatest hits and go from there. I liked californiacation...but it was just too clean cut (over produced)
The only thing I enjoy is having no feelings....being numb rocks!

And I won't make the same mistakes
    (Because I know)
Because I know how much time that wastes
    (And function)
    Function is the key

Check out The Uplift Mofo Party Plan(87) and Mother's Milk(89).
What I would truly reccomend though, is working your way through they're catalogue chronologicaly.:)

Yes I agree but the original poster already stated that he/she didn't much like that album. Therefore we were recommending other albums :)

  • BY The Way is one of the greatest albums ever. If you don't like it you are either a metal fan, rap fan, or an idiot.

Late 80s-Uplift Mofo Party Plant, Mother's Milk

    Today-By the Way(Stadium Arcadium's predecessor)

I'd give BSSM another chance, but in between that and Californication was One Hot Minute...some love it, some hate it, some think its ok. A lot different than their other stuff.
I've faced it, a life wasted, and I'm never going back again.

Alot of the songs on Stadium Arcadium (especially the 2nd disk) could easily fit on BSSM, so how you like the new album but dont like that one is strange to me.

Try By the Way, some of the songs on the new one are close to those songs.

I have just been getting in to them myself...I have the albums (so far...) BSSM, Californication, By the Way, Stadium Arcadium, and What hits.

My favorite album so far is By the Way. I think it is an incredible album. Stadium Arcadium I will need some more time with before i make a judgement. I would say go with earlier stuff if you like more funk sounding chili peppers but i would got with more recent if you like more laid back chilled peppers. not to say that all their albums don't have both but generally that's how it is.

Couldnt agree more. Get By the Way if you like the new sound its quite good and in the same mold as the Stadium Arcadium stuff. Honestly though they dont have a bad album. Its great to listen to the peppers catalogue and see the way that they have progressed over the years. Each album is just another amazing step in their evolution!
  • BSSM is a masterpiece. I Could Have Lied is one of my favorite songs of all time.
    1998- MSG 1

  • I'm not being arrogant or a dick. How can you listen to music and not know of BSSM?

I like One Hot minute a ton also. But honestly they haven't put out anything below greatness.
