Also, what kind of music are you looking for? rocking stuff? chill stuff? Things you've never heard before?
Download 2 of my songs from iTunes (search for Slowloader)...they're good for driving.

The 30 second samples are a bit light. I believe there are longer samples at CD Baby

Or maybe some Emperor. That should keep you awake.
Perfect road trip song.
Matt Chamberlain (Tori Amos' drummer, among others) has a new solo record that's really great. If you've never heard Eleven, you might want to chekc them out too: http://www.elevenworld.com They have toured with PJ in the past, and Jack Irons is their drummer

Critical mass ~ Motorpsycho
You’re on the outside, never bound by such a spell.
Together in the darkness, alone in the light.

On the road trips I've taken, I've found that just putting in a CD that you can sing along to and rock out to is great for the haul. It keeps you happy. It keeps you sane. If you are going with other people, it would be a good idea to get a bunch of songs that everybody knows real well. Think of the movie Tommy Boy, where Tommy (Farley) and Richard (Spade) are singing along to the different songs that come on as they drive from place to place. Trust me, it helps keep the energy going. And if you are anything like me and my friends (who have always thought the best thing to do was to rotate drivers and never stop driving - minus gas and food breaks of course), you'll need something to break the tension from time to time. 3-4 people crammed into a car for more than a few hours can get kinda tense
