A question for U2 fans

I wouldn't pay $20 bucks to go see Tom Petty. So most Pearl Jam fans are paying a little over $100 a ticket to go see a shortened Pearl Jam concert with a decent opening act. Newer Pearl Jam fans will get nothing better than mediocore seats for that $100+. Newsflash for you, U2's mediocore seats were $95.
I wonder what your math tells you now about Pearl jam.

so you would pay $165 PLUS SERVICE CHARGES to see u2 and you wouldn't pay $20 to see tom petty...man, r u ever confused...LMFAO

so what if u2's "mediocore" seats cost $95 PLUS SERVICE CHARGES...fact of the matter is that they had approx 30% of their tickets priced at $165 PLUS SERVICE CHARGES...

what really bothers me is you don't get it :(

    blind faith indeed

so PJ and TPAH are $100 including charges...thats still $40 for a slightly shortened PJ set and $60 to see a RnR hall of famer...who i might add got in the hall 1st year of being eligible...but if you don't "get" tom petty and the heartbrakers then you don't get why they are worth $60

...."No band is worth that kind of money" is your assessment. I don't like the price, but did pay it for one of the 6 shows I attended with no regret. Keeping in mind U2's status in music, their price structure is reasonable compared to acts like The Rolling Stones (top price $450), Madonna (top price $350 plus auctioning off the best seats for more), Paul Mac (top price $250), The Eagles (top price $175) and many other of the larger names in music today.

The fact that U2 easily sold out every show tells you they assessed the marketplace correctly in terms of price structure, if not undervalued the prices a bit.

My bubble isn't burst, I have been attending concerts for over 2 decades now and have become very selective about how I spend my concert dollars, I have seen 22 U2 shows and never felt slighted nor felt that I overpaid. Same holds for 14 (soon to be 17) Pearl Jam shows.

What astounds me is the people here who complain about PJ tix prices at $51 base. They should take a hard look at the tour industry as a whole and compare the value of a Pearl Jam show to others, there should be no bitching about the price.

it's so true about PJ and people complaining about their ticket prices...i dont get that at all...people, wake the fuck up! PJ are charging well under their market value...and they do that cause they care(unlike u2)

as i said no band is worth $200 a ticket and yes that is my personal opinion. i feel sorry for you if you think u2 is worth that much. cause they aren't and neither is the stones, sir paul and csny(2006) etc

finally if you want to compare resume's then let's go...in 2 weeks it will be my 25th PJ show...ive been seeing shows since the early 1980's...i have no problem slagging u2 cause they are clearly all about greed...i know what i'm talking about when it comes to concert ticket prices and in the end my hard earned cash goes to local musicians(first) and then bands that i feel treat their fans with respect(hence my 25 PJ shows)...in that order...sure i saw u2 on the last tour but i wouldn't value that show at $200(including charges)...even if i got rail inside the bomb shelter

No rail inside the elipse would have been a $49.50 value (don't pin the fees on the band)
    This weekend we rock Portland

as a prop/fan club member i know how much those bomb shelter tickets cost...too bad the only way to get them was to join the $30 fan club...
and evern then you had to fight the scalpers who joined the club just to resell tickets!! what a fucking mess that was...

bottomline is u2 are not worth $165...i'd value their show at a top TOP price of $80...so even their $95 tickets are overpriced, imnsho ;)

anything over a hundred bucks is stupid and just plain greed

although it's sort of like just cutting out the scalper

    i don't know...

i paid $100 for the Borgata tix and would definitely do it again

Also as a prop subscriber I was able to buy presale tix a 2nd time for the fall leg due to the fiasco in the spring(where I ended up getting side loges in the presale) and was able to gat the GA's with ease the 2nd time around.

(And it was $20 for former Propaganda members to join)

....and it was $30 this year to keep up the membership...if they don't recognize long time loyalty for the next tour and/or let the scalpers rejoin then i am officially dissing u2 FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE...they are hanging on a very thin thread in my books...i want to beleive that they care...but between the $125(atyclb) tour and $165 for this tour i'm almost fed up with that gold circle ticket price shit...

i agree with bostonlou...anything over $100 a ticket is PURE GREED...especially keeping in mind that u2's atyclb tour was also a 100+ million dollar tour...no current band needs to take that kind cash from their long time loyal fans, 2 tours back to back :(
  • do you know what percentage of tickets made available were GA floors? a very small number!

GOLD CIRCLE = $ 165 PLUS SERVICE CHARGE

no band is worth that kinda money :(

    sorry to burst your bubble

the only thing U2 care about is making a HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS PER TOUR...all at the fan's expense... :(

Sorry to burst YOUR bubble dude. Its hard to argue with what a band charges when 100% of the tours tickets sell out on the first day. Quite frankly, I don't miss the $220 my wife and I spent (total) for our tickets, but we had the time of our fuckin' lives that night. If seats would have been cheaper, I may not have been
able to get them. And I'm not rich. Actually far from it.

    Supply and demand, simple economics.

  • Its better to pay $150 for U2 or the Rolling Stones and see somewhat of a high tech show than to pay $115 for the Eagles and Bruce Springsteen to essentially play on a bar stage
