setlists

Pearl Jam. Bruce. Dave Matthews Band.

Do any other major artists change setlists?

Artists like U2 and the Weird Al generally put on a full show that makes changing the set difficult, but most bands just seem to go out and do the same thing every night for no real reason.

I love Live and The Who, but I can barely seperate the different times I've seen them in my mind because they ALWAYS do the same stuff.

The Rolling Stones mix their sets up a bit throughout the tour. They do the same basic set for a few shows then switch things up but there is always a bit of variation from one show to the next. This is pretty impressive given all the props and pyrotechnics that they use throughout their shows and also their age.

  • I love the Stones, but they tend to follow an outline on each tour.

Plus, of the 7 times I saw them, if I'm not mistaken, they played 'Honky tonk Women,' 'its Only Rock n Roll,' 'Brown Sugar,' 'You've Got Me Rocking,' 'Start Me Up,' 'Jumping Jack Flash,' and 'Tumbling Dice' EVERY TIME. I like all of those songs. But if you take those and add the others that they do most of the time (Sympathy, Satisfaction. Miss You) that seriously cuts your chances of hearing some of their fantastic gems like 'Undercover,' 'Memory Motel,' or even 'Under My Thumb'

PJ, DMB and Bruce essentially don't pick the set until a few hours before, and I was just wondering how many bands actually do that.

I've seen Pearl Jam 11 times and I believe I've heard atleast 3/4 of every album live

Not quite the drawing power as the artists you listed, but the Drive-By Truckers mix up their setlists quite a bit each night. Robert Randolph & The Family band too.

The Grateful Dead were really the ones were known for mixing up setlists, and some of the spinoff bands, Phil & Friends and Ratdog, both still are pretty unpredictable.

Dylan is well known for making a setlist at the last minute, the Dylanpool website is essentially a competition to see who can guess it the best. Be pretty cool for someone to set up a PJ-pool type website.

When I saw DBT back in Feb...I was right next to the stage in front of Isbell...there was no setlist.

I asked about this at the DBT Message Board...The Mod at that board said: "They will typically decide on the first song right before they go onstage, but wing it after that"

    I thought that was great.

I have seen them 5 and can say as I've seen about the same, that's whats great about them.

Tool swap a couple songs in and out a night, as do Velvet Revolver. Neither one has a real elaborate lighting show, and I am sure all of Tool's videos are a one button thing.

Black Crowes switch it up, maybe more than PJ.

Zeppelin used to switch it up quite a bit too. Plant has a pretty standard route but he adds the occasional surprise.

Petty plays the same thing every night. Usually without change.

I am tryin to think of a few others I have seen or collected bootlegs.

R.E.M., The Cure, Bob Dylan, Radiohead, just about any band that gets lumped in under the "jam band" category.

i saw moe in march 3 times in a row (charlotte and 2x atlanta) i didn't hear a single repeated song, i'll also add that they cranked that whole weekend, never any complaints from me about this band. but they play only about 12 or so songs while pearl jam would play well over 20.

Tragically Hip changes things up every night. I can advise that you check out their website http://www.thehip.com. They offer Hip radio which features an ubreleased song or two and selected album cuts.

Well, Bruce does not change the setlist much. Not nearly as much as PJ anyway. At least for his Italian dates.
... and the will to show I will always be better than before.

I hate whan bands do that. Especially if you want to see them twice in a row.
