I was wondering what other Pearl Jam fans think of this album. It's one of my absolute favorites. Forget all pop shit they came out with recently, this album absolutely rocks. Redefine, Vitamin, Idiot Box, Glass, and New Skin are standouts for me.

Thoughts?

love this album. can't remember if it has 'favorite things' on it, though. that's my favorite incubus song.

  • Certain Shade of Green and Anti Gravity are also great.
  • How is their new shit pop, with the exception of maybe Dig and Love Hurts... the rest is fucking straight up rocking. I just love how they switch up their style so much... like they did the whole nu-metal scene with S.C.I.E.N.C.E., but it wasn't typical nu-metal, they had fucking jazz/funk influences off the hook and Brandon Boyd's lyrics are insanely brilliant, especially since he was 19ish. Either way, the album is probably the least listened to, other than Fungus Amongus/Enjoy Incubus EP... it's good, it's just, Make Yourself is their best, but their latter material is getting quite good... and since Einziger is at Harvard right now, hopefully he learns some new tricks.
If I could, think I would give in.

I'm just saying Dig (which I don't even hate that much), Oil and Water, Love Hurts, etc. are all new pop songs that conform to the new soft shit that's all over the radio. You wouldn't find Incubus recording those songs 10 years ago. It's not a crime to change your style to make money but Light Grenades is a far cry from Fongus Amongus and S.C.I.E.N.C.E which I think is their best, most interesting material. A lot of their new stuff bores me. But, I still love Incubus and try to catch then whenever they come around.
  • Light Grenades is a far from those albums because they've grown up musically and as people too... so Fungus/SCIENCE were their younger days, you can definitely tell... it's energetic, it's fast, but some stuff starts to sound the same... the newer stuff might be pop compared to what they did back in the day, but in no way does it sound like music on the radio. They don't even get radio play... actually, Incubus doesn't even seem to be on anyone's radar anymore, their glory days were back with Make Yourself into Morning View, but when A Crow Left of the Murder came out, that's when people stopped listening (at least, this is what it seems to me). And there's no way they will ever make an album for a quick buck... their music always reflects their current state.

Sorry, they're my favorite band... I know you're not really putting them down, but I feel like I have to defend them to some extent.
If I could, think I would give in.

I love S.C.I.E.N.C.E., but I think their more recent stuff is vastly superior. Morning View and A Crow Left of the Murder are two of my favorite albums. Still not a huge fan of Light Grenades. It grew on me some, but I can't imagine listening to it much in the future.
It makes much more sense to live in the present tense.
  • Definitely one of my alltime favorites. I can play almost all of it on bass :D

my favorite album of theirs. i can't get into any of their albums after make yourself
  • I think glass off of their Science record is their greatest song. Lyrically, it just gives me chills, and it is something we can all relate to, not to mention that it rocks hard.
  • I played it to a friend once saying it was the new mike patton album, He Believed me!

Enjoyed it when I had it but talk about a faith no more rip off, im surprised they didnt sue!

I love S.c.i.e.n.c.e. but unfortunately have been let down more and more by each successive album.

  • S.C.I.E.N.C.E rules. My second favourite Incubus album to Morning View.
  • I love everything by Incubus including S.C.I.E.N.C.E, but seem to always go back to it for 'Certain Shade of Green' and 'Favourite Things'.

Favourite albums though are Make Yourself, Morning View and ACLOTM.

I think Light Grenades was OK as far as the songs go individually, but the album bores me a little.

  • I prefer Morning View and A Crow Left Of The Murder.....
