Since I've been a PJ fan and known that The Who were such a big influence on the guys I've began to get into The Who alot more.

They're awesome!!!!

It's too bad I didn't find this out before :):)

I remember being ten years old and discovering my brother's Track Records vinyl copy of Live at Leeds in the front room at home, back in 1982. (I'd been working my way down the pile of his records, in his absence, since he'd gone off to University.) I was a bonkers Who fan for a couple of years. There was a second hand record shop nearby and I bought old mint quality copies of their albums, including a couple of rare Polydor oddities (reissues of The Who Sell Out, for example). But then when I was twelve I discovered Jimi, and thus began the main musical passion of my life. Still love The Who though.

They'd be better if they stopped selling their music to car commericals and tv shows though...

while I generally agree with your sentiment, who else do you know that can make 50-100k for 30 seconds of their time? That's the ballpark for what a band like the Who gets for the use of their music in a commercial (provided we're talking single use license and not a roylaty every time the commercial airs...which could end up being a LOT more money).

Think about it. If you made your living as a musician, would you rather tour the world at 60, or make a few hundred grand a year from licensing, and another few hundred grand a year from royalties for your body of work? Do a cost-benefit analysis. ;)

I understand the Who's place in Rock history and the fact that PJ are heavily influenced by them, so I will choose my words very carefully

Can anyone help me and tell me where to start with The Who? You know, what album is best to start with? I'm not interested in starting with any Live stuff or greatest hits really.

I just absolutely cannot stomach the stupid backing vocals on 'Who Are You'. I mean what were they thinking?

Yeah, I kept telling John and Keith, it's "Whooooooo are you?", not "Why"!

they have much better tunes than who are you.

lol yeah I know. Typo which reflects the thought-process behind the post: 'Why?' A Freudian slip if you like. :) Corrected.

Awesome! I want to see them at the University on the 17th but I have to move out of my accommodation that morning so it's not going to happen, sadly. Maybe they'll play the Uni again in another 36 years' time?!

well,if you want to get knocked on your ass.
Straight to "Quadrophenia" for you.Their best In my opinion.
    Then "Who's next".
Then "Odds & Sods", "Who by Numbers", "Tommy", "Who Are You".
If you like those, you can then move to their earlier stuff.
