Ok, after reading a Spin article on Bloc Party and Kaiser Chiefs attempting to create a 2nd album as good as their first, I had a question. What band has created a 2nd album that exceeded their first?
When answering, only give one answer.
My answer:
The Tea Pary: Edges of Twilight

It is obscure b/c I can't think of many great 2nd albums

The list isn't very long for bands who's first album I actually enjoyed but still made a better second album...

I will go with Arcade Fire, I think "Neon Bible" is a better album than "Funeral"

My favourite second album that blows away the band's first is Stone Temple Pilots' Purple. That's a fantastic album that really brings the band away from the Pearl Jam ripoff tag they earned with Core. Meatplow, Vasoline, Interstate Love Song, Pretty Penny, Big Empty and Silvergun Superman kick ass. In fact, I'm gonna listen to it now.

    Couldn't agree more!
"I try my best to chug, stomp, weep, whisper, moan, wheeze, scat, blurt, rage, whine, and seduce. With my voice I can sound like a girl, the boogieman, a Theremin, a cherry bomb, a clown, a doctor, a murderer. I can be tribal. Ironic. Or disturbed. My voice is really my instrument."

Freewheeling Bob Dylan came after the s/t album of covers. The Times They Are A-Changin' is album #3.
neil young - harvest (that was second right?... I get my 60s chronology confused sometimes)

Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere was Neil's second album, and first with Crazy Horse backing him. Harvest was album #4. After The Goldrush was between the two. His first album was self titled.
