Ok, after reading a Spin article on Bloc Party and Kaiser Chiefs attempting to create a 2nd album as good as their first, I had a question. What band has created a 2nd album that exceeded their first?
When answering, only give one answer.
My answer:
The Tea Pary: Edges of Twilight
It is obscure b/c I can't think of many great 2nd albums

The greatest second album ever recorded
Couldn't agree more!
-Tom Waits
Freewheeling Bob Dylan came after the s/t album of covers. The Times They Are A-Changin' is album #3.
Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere was Neil's second album, and first with Crazy Horse backing him. Harvest was album #4. After The Goldrush was between the two. His first album was self titled.

I'll make an argument that R.E.M.'s Reckoning can at times rival Murmur even though Chronic Town was the first release (EP)
Oasis - Whats the Story Morning Glory........their 2nd and greatest album!
You Am I - Hi Fi Way....although Sound as Ever was a great 1st album, Hi Fi Way is still one of their best!
Cake - Fashion Nugget.....still one of my fave albums from the 90's.
The Offspring - Ignition was a great album, back in their pre-pop days......
Black Sabbath - Paranoid....tho my fave Sabbath album is still Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Paranoid beats their debut album for the first side alone, containing War Pigs, Paranoid, Planet Caravan, and Iron Man.....throw in Electric Funeral and Fairies Wear Boots and you've got a fucken AWESOME album!
Radiohead - The Bends.....still remains my fave radiohead album
ah, thats about all i can think of right now........great thread!!!!!
when all are one and one is all, to be a rock and not to roll.........
see me @ www.myspace.com/bigmuzz

Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream.
Although I think their 3rd is better than their 2nd.
Pearl Jam - Vs
Radiohead - the bends
Kings of Leon - Aha Shake
Killers - Sam's Town
Faith No More - Real Thing (not sure if this was 2nd album though...)
Jane's Addiction - Nothing's Shocking
Queen - Queen II
Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime
