I'm going to see Les Claypool in Portland in March at the Roseland. I'll be honest and aside from Primus, I don't know much about him as a solo artist or what kind of show to be expecting. Has anyone seen him before? What kind of set can I expect? Anyone else going?

Thanks.

The whammy is always my Favorite part, especially if he wears his monkey mask! He will usually do some Primus stuff, but he is unreal live. If you like Primus (we all know Primus sucks) You will love it!!! A real showman and great artist. Seen him a few times with all kinds of other band members. He will not disappoint.
Thank you fellow 10 clubber for saving my ass....again!!!

I saw him a few years ago.. and oh my, it was incredible. the music is still weird, but just how amazing he is at playing overshadows any weirdness that a song may have.

i said it before and i'll say it again..

its like seeing a living legend

I'm not a big fan of most of his music, but I totally respect his talents. I saw him (solo) a few years ago and really enjoyed it. I don't think I'd see him multiple times or go out of my way to see him, but I'd definitely see him if he comes to town and I don't have anything else going on.

I'm going to see his Duo de Twang this weekend in Boston and I can't wait. I've seen him in many band incarnations: Primus 12x, Oysterhead, Flying Frog Brigade...and every single time he delivers. I freaking love that guy, as weird as he is. I swear he's a living cartoon character.

AMEN. that description fits him well!! saw him with Primus mad times (maybe not 12); Flying Frog (when they did Animals---f..king awesome!!); Whales and Woe; Fungi tour with the electric cello?; Holy Mack; Sausage with Henry Rollins opener; duo last year was a blast...Can't wait to see him tonight in NYC!! Bringing a bass player/Les fan with me who never saw him live...his reaction alone will be worth the trip!!
Have fun at show in Boston...Duo definately rocks to a true Les fan...it's like a storytellers show & some special guests may show up...The dude from south park came out last year in nyc and played with them.

    thank goodness for strange musicians...

my brain could use a little twisting

  • Damn I love me some Primus. Seen more than any band not named Pearl Jam. (8x over a 20+ year period?)
Never seen Les solo but would like to. Have fun!

I'm at a loss for words...kind of. NYC show started by being serenaded by an operatic 7 foot clown 'puddles' in an old 1920's themed hotel. 'our own' Danny Clinch wailed on a couple of songs on harmonica and 'puddles' came out again later...sooooooo in a nutttssssshell.

If Les is in town and you don't want to go...it's completely up to you, but IMO you are missing a crazy musical experience.

they are playing a secret show tonight at 7 in BRKLYN at a rod and gun club...sweet jesus! if anyone here goes let me know how it was!

I got my fix last night and maybe get yours tonight
