I love the song Gloria! it's such a fine tune! :)

plus, this is irrelevant when thinking about Patti's music, but I think she's pretty as hell! :p

so, anyone else like her? or like Gloria? or could recommend some other releases etc. for me?

You might like Land - 1975-2000 - its not so much a greatest hits as a compilation of some of her favorite and her best work.... there is a rare live recording of Piss Factory from 1974 on it which is amazing. She is one artist who if I ever met, I KNOW I'd make a fool of myself because I look up to her so highly.

  • That first line of "Gloria" may be the best opening line of any song ever. It's certainly right up there in my books with The Stooges' "Search & Destroy."

Free Money gets the job done for sure.
  • Patti is brilliant, and when she started off during the birth of punk, think about it, the only woman in a world full of MC5, the NY Dolls, the Stooges, the british scene with the Buzzcocks, the Clash, the Sex Pistols, and her is Patti Smith up at the front of the pack helping lead the way.

She's brilliant, fearless, and it's bullshit that she isn't in the Rock n Roll hall of fame.

    I believe so too.

she seems a bit scary. in a good way. so confident in what she's doing.

she really "got to me" when I read the book Please Kill Me. (which I highly recommend to anyone interested in the origins of punk.)

Ive been on a big Patti Smith kick. Horses is one of those albums I can listen to, from start to finish, over and over again. It is truly a complete album, not just a collection of songs. She is doing a book tour this fall. I think Im going to have to pick up a ticket for when she visits the Philadelphia Free Library. I saw her open for Neil Young a few years back, what a great show!

Patti Smith! Yes, Horses is amazing. Really loved her book, Just Kids, too.

Love Patti Smith. Looking forward to her new book, M Train, out on October 6:

"From the National Book Award-winning author of Just Kids: an unforgettable odyssey into the mind of this legendary artist, told through the prism of cafés and haunts she has visited and worked in around the world. M Train is a meditation on endings and on beginnings: a poetic tour de force by one of the most brilliant multiplatform artists at work today."

Were you there tonight, Dan? She was awesome! I somehow missed when they announced the NYPL book reading and much to my dismay, the event was sold out :( But fortuitously, I found myself in Boston tonight. I love her to pieces. I can't believe I only started following her recently. She's the most genuine, uninhibited musician/artist I've ever had the pleasure of witnessing.

Missed it. We were all tuckered out from the Topsfield fair. I've seen her quite a bit, but still bummed that I missed the reading.

Also, next time you're in Boston, ping me, ya jerk!
