do you ever listen to gospel music?
do you know that nowadays it means more than just Elvis singing Amazing Grace?
are there any gospel bands around where you are from?

just this weekend I was in this thing for young people. (a religious even of sort but I dunno if I can describe it without making it sound odd.) many gospel bands performed there, including my fave at the moment, The Rain (they sing in Finnish, just have and English name :D ) that plays really really good rock 'n roll, with a message. :)

that got me thinking if there would be a similar "underground" of gospel bands of all sorts (pop, rock, metal, more traditional) in other countries. I know there are some in the US but that's about it.

well, share and discuss. :)

If you're looking for Christian music (which I think you are), there's flipping LOADS of it all over the world. Only about one third of it is worth listening to when measured up to secular standards though, IMO As far as skill is concerned, 'Gospel' music (if we mean the same thing) has some of the most skilled musicians around. Not into the music though.

Robert Randolph and the Family Band-If you havent listened to them, I suggest you do. RR plays a 13 string steel guitar through a Crate blue voodoo tube amp. They are big amongst the jam scene.

Ben Harper and the Blind Boys from Alabama- the album they did together is incredible.

Excellent suggestions. I still have to check out Robert Randolph but I've heard amazing things about him. I suggest the Ben Harper & Blind Boys of Alabama dvd, it's awesome.
Give a listen to the Blind Boys of Alabama Christmas cd. It's a favorite for me at that time of the year.

    well, yeah, sorta I am.

I was just wondering how is Christian music doing all over the world. and are there bands playing music with a Christian message but with the music being more untraditional. :)

and by gospel music I mean rock/pop/heavy metal/techno/anything with a Christian message.
