...Thought I'd ask. They came out of NYC around 89/90, I saw them support Metallica and they were excellent. Their first 2 or 3 albums were very good, then they split apparently, but now are back together in some fashion or other. I'm seeing them in a couple of weeks in a club in Cardiff, looking forward to it :)

Anyone else remember them ? Anyone seen them recently? They've been touring in America.

I've no idea. I lost track with what they were doing after album 3, from what I gather this line up is pretty much just the singer...doing an Axl, and I did see some bad blood on show from (I'm guessing) original members.

+edit+ this was on album number 3 :)

I had their debut but went no further. the Losers is such a killer tune. I also remember some 'song' more like a spoken word on there that used to freak people out. Kinda witchy...

Bloody hell! There's a blast from the distant past! Drugs, God & The New Republic was a pretty decent album at the time.

Where are they playing in Cardiff?

  • You know it's funny that this thread was just started.

    That's right! Chinese Democracy!

Sneaky ploy to have another thread about it or coincidence? :D

No, I am going to see them soon is why I asked the Q.
As for the album title, sure, I guess it was nothing more than opportunism on their part. We've all known the name of Axl's new album for like 4 or 5 years, so I suppose when WS were trying to name their album, somebody suggested that they nick it...I bet they got a decent amount of interest from it.
As a footnote, I should point out that it was only available mail order or at gigs, and as a limited run which is more or less sold out now. From now on the album will get a proper release with a different title......I guess Axl's lawyers had a word in Kory's shell like ;)

So, they played a really excellent gig, only about 60 people there but it was awesome for us :) and Kory was a true gentleman and signed a cd slip case I took along....unfortunatley some tosser at the late bar I went to for post gig Guinness, decided to steal my jacket  which contained said cd cover in the pocket.

I owned Drugs God and The New Republic .... had a crazy Joy Division cover on it (Interzone) ...

I can safely say I have not thought about them for at least 15 years.

I played bass in this band for just over a year (2007) and it was this kind of poor decision making which led me to quit. I'm told 'Chinese Democracy' is now retitled and being resold as '...and we Rock n Roll'. Urrggh.

I saw this on your list of concerts you seen this year and I remember having one or two of their albums. I'll have pull them and and give a listen once again.
