Wednesday night. They were amazing. Great sound, great set list, great energy from band, great show. If anyone else differs, I would love to know why!

agreed. I saw them a few weeks ago and I loved the show. I'm not the biggest of heir fans, but I've been positively surprised by their perfomance. Visually, the show is great too (the screens, the balloons, the lights etc.)

yeah its too bad that chris martin decided that 33 is "too old" to be in a rock band and plans for the group to be done by the end of 09...

that wasn't sarcasm btw I really think its a bummer.

I like the band...but he seems to be a real douche

I disagree. Same setlists, same outfits, same corny light show. Coldplay is pop, not rock.

  • they maybe pop (which I definitely do not agree with) but it is great pop, so who cares what "category" it falls into. At the end of the day, good music is good music.

yeah...I wish they'd change it up a bit...but they're pretty damn tight as a live band though.

I also wish they would smash chris martin's piano to pieces and write a guitar driven album like Parachutes

Let me re-phrase: Coldplay is bad pop.

Coldplay is a rock band? The only time I listen to them is when I'm trying to fall asleep.

  • Went to a show about a week ago. They know how to work a crowd, but I was dissapointed with the setlist. They played every track from their new cd, and I am just not that big of a fan of it. The x&y tour was a lot better in my opinion. Also, playing god put a smile on my face and Talk in Techno was absolutely terrible in my opinion. Both of those songs are phenomenal in their regular version. Also, how do they not play any of the following songs:

    1. Shiver
    2. Green Eyes
    3. Swallowed in the Sea
    4. Moses
    5. Trouble!!!!!!
Take one of the new songs out and put any of these in there, thats just ridiculous.

    Coldplay isn't a rock band.
    They are background noise pop.

After watching tons of interviews with Chris, he really is a very nice guy. The problem is that he has a different since of humour and he also is very hard on himself. They have refuted the rumours that they plan on retiring after next year. What he was saying was he thinks that all of the best bands have written their best stuff by the age of 33 so he is afraid he is at his peak. So he is kind of putting pressure on himself to write as much as he can while he is at his peak. That's why they are releasing another CD at the end of 09. But, they are in no way planning on retiring after next year. Watch some interviews with him on youtube. They really are a very nice, down to earth band. (Watch some Viva La Vida era interviews)
  • I'm probably gonna go see them next year. Seen them once before on the X&Y tour and I was suprised at how good the concert was. A lot of people just assume that cos they have a lot of slow, mellow kinda songs, that the show will be boring - not the case. I'm also a fan of the new cd, so I'm looking forward to hearing what the songs are like live.
  • Was very disappointed when I saw them in July. Almost NO songs from 'Parachutes'...only played a half-baked version of "Yellow" in the crowd.

Much of the show was more like "Viva La Karaoke" than "Viva La Vida"...backing tracks used on WAY too many songs...
  • ... I also wish they would smash chris martin's piano to pieces and write a guitar driven album like Parachutes

I agree with you there. Parachutes is a great album, my favorite of their four.

  • What songs did they use backing tracks on? I thought I might have heard a few, at the most. And a few I mean 2-3, if that. One of my thoughts coming out of the concert was how I heard very little besides what they were playing themselves.

I liked them before I saw them live. Hadn't really cared for them since. I saw them on the x&y tour and I was bored out of my mind. There were a few highlights from the show, In My Place was amazing but overall I was disappointed. I know a lot of people say they put on a great show so maybe I caught them on a bad night but, I'm not shelling out money to see them again.

X&Y tour sucked compared to the one before it

    1. Well, they came out to "Life in Technicolor" being played through the speakers, then proceeded to play along with it for one thing. They also ended with "Death and All His Friends" and then left the stage to a recording.

    2. "Viva La Vida" starting off as a backing track, unless there was an orchestra with violins somewhere backstage that I wasn't aware of. Even the closing background vocals weren't being sung live.

    3. Virtually all of "Yes", with its Middle Eastern sounding intro and all and the violins throughout was a backing track.

    4. Even though he is capable of, Chris Martin failed to play the organ during the intro and throughout "Lost!" This, of course, just mysteriously came through the speakers without being played live onstage.

And that's just the ones that come to me at the moment...I'm sure there were others...
  • Well c'mon, it is not like they can take The New York Philharmonic with them on tour, of course for a few songs (Viva la Vida) using background tracks is essential, but my point was that it never seemed to me that the music was being drowned out by background tracks. 90% of the music that you heard was from them, and for that particular band, that is good with all the arrangements they have going on.

What time did you wake up after being bored to sleep, Coldplay blow big time. That resinating keyboard sound does it for me, it is in every song you hear.
