i feel sorry for him. to be overshadowed in the beatles by lennon/mccartney, the nasty breakup, all those bitter feelings over the years, gets attacked in his home by a crazy man with a knife, and then dies of a brain tumour. poor george.

he was a great songwriter. he held his own in the beatles. and you have to remember - he was the youngest one. he was only 19/20 when the beatles became famous. and when john and paul were 23/24 years old, they were writing can't buy me love and i should have known better. when george was that age, he was writing taxman, love you to, and within you without you. and he wrote these songs on his own. lennon and mccartney did, too, but they also helped each other here and there with lyrics. and george wrote the 2 best songs on the beatles' last album. known as the "quiet one", he was more like the "over looked one". anyways, check these lyrics out from within you, without you, one of the best songs he ever wrote. it is largely overlooked and under appreciated because it is on the sgt. peppers album:

Within You Without You

We were talking - about the space between us all
And the people - who hide themselves behind a wall of illusion
Never glimpse the truth - then it’s far too late - when they pass away.
We were talking - about the love we could all share - when we find it
To try our best to hold it there - with our love
With our love - we could save the world - if they only knew.
Try to realize it’s all within yourself
No-one else can make you change
And to see you’re really only very small,
And life flows on within you and without you.
We were talking - about the love that’s gone so cold and the people,
Who gain the world and lose their soul -
They don’t know - they can’t see - are you one of them?
When you’ve seen beyond yourself -
Then you may find peace of mind, is waiting there -
And the time will come when you see we’re all one,
And life flows on within you and without you.
Another habit says it's in love with you
Another habit says its long overdue
Another habit like an unwanted friend
I'm so happy with my righteous self

  • i was really impressed with george's songs on anthology 3. his solo, acoustic version of 'while my guitar gently weeps' was haunting. i also love 'i want to tell you', 'all things must pass' and 'i me mine'.

....and don't forget his charity work, basically invented the large scale benefit concert.

No.....that was during his paranoid phase.....Lennon's murder shook him pretty damn hard.

Way back in the 1970's, he created the format with the Concert for Bangladesh @ MSG.

  • John helped George a lot with his songwriting and was rather hurt when George didn't acknowledge that. John and Paul wrote together in their early career; later, they wrote mostly solo within the Beatles. But as personality types and songwriters, they were perfect for each other. Paul could do melody, John could do words. On their songs together, you can pretty much tell which one did the bridge.

George Martin has acknowledged that he was "rather beastly" to George.

George is my favorite Beatle. I love the stuff by Lennon/McCartney but Harrison's songs are just the best to me.
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

I didn´t hear it. Then again I don´t pay too much attention to the new stuff of old rocker.

People say Ringo gets the bad rap in the Beatles...I say its Harrison....I mean sure McCartney and Lennon were geniuses but looke at McCartney(his first solo album) and then look at Harrisons All Things Must Pass. Now THAT is a debut album
I've faced it, a life wasted, and I'm never going back again.

Yea, Concert For George. That show is amazing. As is Concert For Bangladesh.
