for a long time, sgt. peppers was considered the beatles masterpiece. in recent years, however, revolver has come to be known as the superior album. which one is better and why?? you decide.

pick one or the other. please don't say abbey road or the white album or any other beatles album. this thread is about these 2 albums only. :p

different eras.....i think Revolver is only comparable to Rubber Soul. Sgt. Peppers i guess is comparable to the Mystery Tour or the White Album maybe

Edit: but Sgt. Peppers gets my vote. Revolver is great though. Tomorrow Never Knows is a good time and For No One is one of my all-time faves. but i have but 7 words for you: Being For The Benefit of Mr. Kite! what's that? A Day in the life too? oh god. what a fucking album

its hard to explain, as i love both records. revolver just has this stripped down, open, more listenable theme to it. i love revolver for i'm only sleeping, dr. robert, and your bird can sing, tomorrow never knows.. i love sgt. peppers but its got a certain sadness about it to me. most of the tracks have been played more???

it just depends on what mood i'm in. hell, i love both... i really say that about all beatles records. it depends on what mood i'm in. i just thought of for the benefit of mr. kite. and my eight year old niece who loves that album.

Revolver is 1000000 times better than Sgt Peppers. Its more experimental and the songs along with the lyrics are 1000 times better.

Revolver - Abbey Road will always be my favorite, though.
  • Revolver covers everything from balladic pop (Here There and Everywhere), through political satire (Taxman) and the Geno Washington-era soul boom (Got To Get You Into My Life), to Lennon psychedelia (She Said She Said, Tomorrow Never Knows). I think Sgt Pepper is constricted by being a concept album and a psychedelic timepiece. And Lennon only contributes three and a half songs to Pepper (A Day In The Life being partly written by Paul); George only contributes one. Revolver is more representative than Pepper, of the individual talents of John, Paul and George as songwriters.

I need to get more into the Beatles, I'd say Revolver, though Sgt. Peppers is brilliant. Abbey Road>Both of them though.
Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V

I'd say the White Album is their masterpiece and Revolver is better than Sgt. Pepper's. I'm thinking Sgt. Pepper's became overrated due to the fact that its a very different album from anything people had heard before.
  • Rubber Soul anyone?

    that's my fav.

similar to revolver in many ways.

  • I think pepper is all about the impact and the change it bought about in contemporary music and although Pepper has day in a life my fav beatles tune, I'd say revolver, it's more consistent and dosn't really have any fillers on it.

Unlike Pepper which has When I'm 64 and lovely Rita, which arn't great songs at all. You can't take away the impact which Sgt Pepper had but Revolver is the king in my book.

That's my fave too. Not too poppy, not too experimental. Just right.

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

"She's Leaving Home," "Fixing a Hole," "Lovely Rita," "Being For The Benefit of Mr. Kite" and "A Day In the Life" are incredible songs......I'd usually lean toward Revolver, but lately I've been listening to Sgt. Pepper's on vinyl and I've got to say, it's the most wonderful thing I've ever heard on vinyl. The whole conceptual idea behind Sgt. Pepper's was monumental. Revolver is missing that element.
