man i used to worry my parents listening to this album back in the day. they really didn't approve of songs like 'used to love her', 'you're crazy.' and 'one in a million' was offending and pissing people off back when eminem was still in junior high. i have to admit though, 'one in a million' was a little much for me, but it was so catchy and such a good song, minus the racial slurs and homophobic remarks. i listened to 'lies' all the time, as much as 'appetite.' i haven't heard this in ages, i'm gonna have to dig it out and give it a spin sometime soon. "you're fucking crazy, oh child!!" :D

Lies is a great album. And "I Used to Love Her" is a great drinking song. We changed it to "I used to love her but I had tequila". After you sing the line you gotta have a shooter of tequila. I suggest you use half ounce shooters.

You're Crazy is better acoustic than electric.

haha "I used to love her but I had tequila". that's great!! :D

i love both versions of 'you're crazy', but ya, the acoustic version is superior. i love the vocals! "you know you are, bring it down - you're fucking crazy!!" :D

I first heard that album say around 92ish when I was in school and I loved it, I was still being held in thrall by appetite so it appealed to me more than the illusions ever have.
the acoustic Your Crazy I much preferred and even one in a million I liked for the spanish-tinged acoustic guitar and the blatent -dont give a fuck lyrics.
The whole thing just seemed to keep up the nihilistic attitude and sound that I felt on appetite........ah mama kin, move to the city, nice boys--- I just thought that axls voice was a monster.
the band photo on the inner sleeve gave me the impression that they came from somewhere I knew nothing about, that axl&slash just looking cool as fuck.
yous remember a live concert much bootlegged (its on youtube) and I believe that went out on u.s tv called: Live at the ritz......my oh my

that was a good album I do favor appetite for destruction but i listened to that a lot back in the day. I don't have it anymore and need to get it again :)
These cuts are leaving creases. Trace the scars to fit the pieces, to tell the story, you don't need to say a word.
  • i loved Lies, when i was 12 i'd be jumping around singing it and i can remember my mum saying, " one day you will realise what you are singing" i think the day i did i was mortified i sang it in front of my parents. G'N'R were my first band i obsessed over, then at 14 i kinda grew up i guess.. still like to drag it all out though and give it a spin sometimes, however i did have a blast when they came to OZ them and skid row wicked concert :D

yeah, MTV actually played it back in '87-88. I recorded it and still have that VHS tape somewhere. IMO that was rock and roll played in its purest form. They were an awesome live experience back then.

I haven't played Lies in YEARS.

i may have seen that concert! back in 1999 i was in NYC and hung out w/ a kid who was interning at MTV and he swipped it! we sat up all night drinking whiskey watching this thing.. it was from right before Appetite blew up. haven't seen him since but i think he went to rehab. i'd love to get that on dvd.

  • great album loved it then and still do..such a shame what fame fortune and mtv did to axl. would have been cool if they made some more good music to add to what they already did.

i hear you. but i don't think they were destined to be together and make music for a long time. but i always wished they made one more studio album after illusions. i wonder what that would have been like??

I love One in a Million, too. I know it's pretty graphic, but so catchy I find myself singing it whenever I hear it!

Lies is a fun album. I remember when it came out, I was confused as to how a band that produced Appetite for Destruction could pull off the Acoustic sound so well. Patience got played out fast on radio, etc. but the Acoustic You're Crazy is one of my favorite GNR tracks ever.
