I'll admit the video is terrible, but they aren't known for their groundbreaking videos now are they? I love Straight Lines though. Give it some more listens it will sink in.

yeah, the video is awful. but i think the song is fantastic. im anxious to hear the new album. their albums always see, to strike a good balance of progression and perfection... trying out new sounds while fine-tuning old ones. think emotion sickness/spawn again or tuna in the brine/the lever. straight lines seems to fall more into the latter camp, a solid example of the epic and more optimistic sound they developed on the last album.
  • dat tune is nang!

I really like it, very catchy and feelgood song.

When is the new lp out? whats it called?

you think silverchair make music for us. ha. they're doing it for themselves. for their own satisfaction. i do believe what they're going through is called maturation. and quite frankly not all bands manage to get out of their adolescence. silverchair have. people freaked out when diorama was released as well. but hey it wasn't the end of the world nor was it the end of silverchair. and young modern won't be either. they can't keep releasing frogstomp clones. don't forget these guys have been at it since they were babies. now they're men and that's got to have an impact.
oh btw i like what i'm hearing from the new album.

Wow. Bad. I guess they are trying to be like Coldplay now? And what's up with those dance moves? So much for the anticipation of this album.

I agree cate. What's the point to listening to the same old formulaic shit?
I love that the boys in the chair are learning as they grow and that they do it for their own pleasure and experience. Makes it all that much better for the rest of us. Taken in it's entirety the silverchair back catalogue is one of the finest I've ever heard. And I hope they keep doing what they're doing. Because growth is always a good thing for an artist.

Incidently, its for the same reasons that I've stuck with Pearl Jam. And it's the main reason I admire them so much too. :)

Yeah, I reckon Paul has influenced them, but you can't go past the amazing input and influence that the legendary Van Dyke Parks had on them for the Diorama album.

I can hear both influences in the new single.

im wondering how many of the people hating on this song would be saying the same thing if they had heard the song by itself instead of just seeing it with the video. cos the video does suck horribly and daniel looks like a tool. but the song is very good and gets better with each listen.

its the intro man, trust me....it is the apex of shit. and the rest of the song...not good enough to make up for the awful, awful intro.

i like silverchair, always have, but i still reckon their best album was frogstomp (and i know that a lot of ppl will hate me for saying that! i just prefer the heavier, rockier stuff)

but i will still listen to the new album.....ive been waiting for it for too long not to

but agreed, they do continue to 'evolve'...........their new stuff sounds like a completely different band to their old stuff. and with paul mac basically in the band now, they arent really good old silverchair anymore.......i hope they have a few rockier tunes on the album mixed with the slower ones (kinda like diorama). BUT at first i hated the song, now i kinda like it (It is growing on me!). tho the video isnt that great,l i hafta agree on that.

at least daniel has learnt how to grow a REAL BEARD now, compared to that dodgy looking thing he's been sporting for the past couple of years! haha

    Hiya Muzz! How's things? :)

I can understand why you'd stick with Frogstomp. It's an awesome album.
But I have to say that I've seen them play live, gee at least 6 times now, at different gigs, and I have to say they still got it in spades.
The most recent being at The Palais here in Melbourne for the Diorama tour and the whole first half was dedicated to their slower, more mood evoking numbers. But then they came out for the second half after intermission and lifted the lid on the joint! They still rock. One single doesn't make an album. And one album doesn't make a band. So I reckon we'll have more to judge them by soon enough when the album is released. I'm still worried about this video. I'll have to tape Rage over the weekend, it's bound to be on there.
Guess I'll see it soon enough. But nothing Daniel does surprises me. He's an engaging guy, engaged with the world. But good to know the bum fluff's gone! :D

the video? yeah. it's weird and cheesy and daniel looks like a gay porn star from the 70s. the song is still fantastic though. i only watched the first 30 seconds or so before turning it off cos it was so crappy.

Oh thanks ss. :) Guess it won't be such a shock to me then. He looked like a 70's gay porn star at the ARIAs! :D I gotta laugh though coz I was just wondering if that's what folk where talking about. THAT'S EXACTLY how he looks lately! It was more disturbing at the ARIAs to see him spray paint PG4PM on the set. Meaning Peter Garrett for Prime Minister. The ex lead singer of Midnight Oil, and up till he sold out all his principles and joined the Labor party, one of my role models growing up. 20 years of music and beliefs torn down in a day. It still makes me shake my head and try not to cry and I can barely listen to Midnight Oil anymore now. :( I guess the equivalent for you would be if Eddie Vedder joined the Republicans. Anyway, enough about Petey. Thanks for the heads up about the vid. I was hoping you'd respond, because at least I know we have similar musical tastes and that you're a chair fan. So I consider myself forewarned. Thanks for that mate. :)
