I really love Young Modern. Their last one. Can’t beat Diorama in my opinion. I think that’s their best record.

Yeah Young Modern is my favourite. Dirorama is a close second. I also still dig their original…Frogstomp. Wish these guys would get it together but I’m fairly certain that ain’t happening.

Didn't Daniel Johns have mental health problems?

In regards to the band I quite liked their debut album and like the albums that followed enough.  Only got to see them play once at a music festival in '97.   I thought they were pretty good, but a bunch of riff raff were throwing shit like tapes at the stage.

I dunno.  That's a pretty killer album for 15 years old to write and tour behind.   They accomplished more at 15 than I have into my 40s thus far :)

Can't believe the talent of these guys. Yeah we'll make a couple of kickarse heavy rock albums while we have four pubes between us to blow people's minds, then come out with the most outlandish avant garde shit to blow our own minds. Like their stuff or not, that's seriously impressive. Wish I'd seen them live.

Think musically the issue was they were moving in different directions. Daniel has had his issues for sure and you’d have to think that played a part in the hiatus. Chris (bass) now runs successful restaurants in Sydney I think? Ben (drummer) has been on reality tv as recent as a year or two ago as his wife was on Housewives of Melbourne or something. I think he also was in another small band at some point?? Correct me if I’m wrong.

I saw them live in 99' at a festival and they absolutely played the best set of all bands on the bill, including the newly reformed Chili Peppers.

Yeah, from what I can recall reading, he wasn't interested in going back and playing off their older records, but moving forward creatively. It's a minor miracle they convened to record Young Modern in my opinion.

seriously, eh?!?! I was about 10 years late to the party on that one. Their entire catalogue is worth a listen. Every record literally evolves.

A perfect album. Glad I saw them on the Neon Ballroom tour...at their peak.  Saw them in 97 for Freak Show and 2007 for Young Modern too, but those 1999 U.S. theater shows were incredible.

I have nothing to compare, but man, they sounded tight and the one thing that really stood out was just how heavy they sounded for a 3 piece. Not seen one since that sounded that awesome. I felt bad for the acts that followed on that bill cos’ they left it all on the stage that ARVO.

I have always regretted never seeing them live. Neon Ballroom and Diorama was their peak IMO, but I loved all the albums. Actually listened to Freak Show just recently and forgot how good that is too. Their live release (something Stables?) is quite incredible and makes me regret even more never catching them.

saw them in 99 on the edgefest tour. just recalled that tour was headlined by Hole. I remember Courtney Love dissing Silverchair, daniel in particular, as copying Kurt. I wonder if that was after the tour or before?

shit. I'm just listening to Neon Ballroom now based on what you guys said about it. I kind of dismissed it based on Anthem For The Year 2000 (I just found the lyrics so cheesy and eventually would be so dated, which they are). But man, this album is awesome.

Yup, that Live From Faraway Stables box set is incredible.  Beautiful show and they included both audio and video.  Wish that tour had come to the U.S., but glad we have that release at least.

The last time I saw them was a co headlining tour with Powderfinger. They played arenas here in Australia. Also saw them in smaller theatres too. That live album sure is sweet! Here in Melbourne I saw that tour and they played at the Palais Theatre where Ed did his solo shows a few years back. Such a great blend of what they could do and showcased all their albums (except for young modern which was yet to be released).

Whoa, @Hugh Freaking Dillon Hole headlined the same festival I saw Silverchair at. Courtney flashed her vagina several times during the show. I actually don't mind their first few records.
