I've listened to about the first 10 minutes of it, if you like Paul you'll like it, its good stuff.

reviewing this album is a tall order. who would've thought adult ADD would require so much fucking attention? it's either the best or worst 49 cents you'll spend this year. it's excellent if you're already a fan. if you're not, it positively won't make you one. it doesn't have any of the usual should-be hits. hell, it doesn't technically have any songs. as one long track it's a very demanding listen. overlapping songs, snippets, stray sounds, varying production quality, paul's bad drumming throughout... it's not at all cohesive. that said, there's plenty of upside. it's got everything we've come to expect from him - the way too personal lyrics, the hooks, the humor, the swagger, the awkward rhymes and the genius turning of phrases. and some of the guitar work has me questioning if i've been giving bob too much credit all these years. more manic than depressive, its rewarding and maddening all at once. this is what refusing to age gracefully sounds like.

ive downloaded it but havent listened to it yet. seems people are breaking it up into tracks. i guess 18-23 seems to be the number depending on how they handle the noise parts. ill probably spend all night listening and editing it into tracks before i put it onto cd. there are even fan given song titles.

Great review, you hit it right on the head. I agree about Bob Stinson. I've seen Westerberg a few times solo and the man plays a mean guitar.

Aye but could he ever have come up with something so perfect with so few notes as Bob's solo on Sixteen Blue? :)

As always, its great jangly guitar pop from Paul.....his voice seems a bit subdued.

he will always be my favorite!
  • one of my most played cassette tapes when I was a teenager was 12 Songs. God, what a great album. The funny thing is, at the time, when I saw World Class Fad on MTV, I had no idea who the replacements were. I was 16 and just discovering music.
    I like bands.
  • im really liking this. even though i cant put it on random or anything i really like the flow. devil raised a good boy is one of my favorites. the little cover medley at the end is neat too. probably my favorite piece of new music i bought this year.

uneven record, but not bad by any stretch of the imagination.

more new stuff. 3oclockkreep has tom waits on it. and tommy stinson. consensus is that it's from the date to church sessions, which means someone else probably owns the rights, which means it'll get pulled as fast as 49:00 did. get it now. waits sings (attempts) part of we know the night, tries to remember the stones' play with fire, and when paul and tom finally find a groove on hear you been to college... it ends.
  • yeah after 49:00 he released 5:05. i dont care how fast they pull this stuff or whatever. i like the fact that lots of westerberg stuff is coming out and i get it right away anyways.

I only have "Eventually" and the double "Stereo/Mono," and I enjoyed both albums so I'll have get this a listen.

no. it has a medley of covers at the end, none of which paul had the rights to, so it only lasted a few days. he's had 2 more releases since then. neither are full albums like 49:00, but both are cheap enough that you should grab em anyway.
    5:05 is a regular song

3oclockreep (or 3 oclockkreep, the 2nd k is a matter of debate) is similar to 49:00 in that it's collage-y, only shorter. expect that to also disappear soon because it has replacements outtakes (tom waits and tommy stinson can both be heard) which paul probably does not own the rights to. it's sold with a seperate, regular song, finally here once.
