I've though long and hard about this and i would have to say " Rust Never Sleeps " . Powderfinger, Welfare Mothers, Hey hey, My my, Thrasher, what an amazing album.

Id say " Mirrorball " a close second though.
Who cares if the world is going down the toilet? Eddie Vedder got his mojo back!

i'd agree with that. it's just that trans is about the only one i wouldn't listen to straight through. there are underwhelming tunes on some of his albums, but for the most part i like them all cover to cover.

After the Gold Rush is my favorite as far as his records though. It doesn't have my favorite song, or even my second favorite song, but its my favorite Neil album to play from start to finish.
The Man has a branch office in each of our brains, his corporate emblem is a white albatross, each local rep has a cover known as the Ego, and their mission in this world is Bad Shit.

    On the Beach
  • i only have 5 of his albums.. but id say After the Goldrush is my favorite. Very close though. NEIL ROCKS :D
  • what album should i get if im looking for his more hard rock stuff. I have mirror ball and Harvest and they blew my mind
  • its like picking a favorite kid. Everyone is special.

For the purposes of this, I would say my current state of mind is in line with On the Beach from 1975 I think.

It just is whats going on now, the vietnam war ended, watergate happened, nixon resigned, people were tired, and frustrated.

Ambulance Blues gives me chills everytime I hear it. We are at that same point right now in time.

i have to pick 2 since neil has two different sides.

mellow has to be harvest (did she wake you up, to tell you that, it was only a change of plan?) a man needs a maid is also a favorite. the man is a songwriter for sure.

rockin' is weld/arc (cortez the killer still gives me chills to this day)

but who knows, i may just play sleeps with angels any moment now.. western hero sounds so goooood.. or harvest moon, or silver and gold, or etc.
Down the street you can hear her scream youre a disgrace
As she slams the door in his drunken face
    And now he stands outside
And all the neighbours start to gossip and drool
He cries oh, girl you must be mad,
What happened to the sweet love you and me had?
Against the door he leans and starts a scene,
And his tears fall and burn the garden green

and while there are still more of his albums that i like more than arc, id like to give a shout for it, cuz that cd is fucking sweeeeeet.

for the guy who said he wants rocking out neil....it depends what kind of rocking out. however, that said, the album that probably still rocks out the most, imo, is everybody knows this is nowhere.

Well if you don't have it already i suggest you get Live Rust. It gives you a great taste of both world with killer versions of rockin songs ie Like a Hurricane.

    As for his rockers:
    Ragged Glory =Great

A lot of neil's rockers are on albums that have softer sides too. Like Everybody knows this is knowwhere has teh power trio of cinnamon girl, cowgirl in the sand, and down by the river but the rest of the album is a bit more mellow.

    His first 3 albums especially.

Then...Comes A Time. Harvest Moon. Prairie Wind, hmm too many favourites.

I can't choose either. This is Neil we're talking about...:)
