Started Boarding School and was given a tape of Pearl Jam, thought 'what a dumb name for a band. I bet it's rap music'. Wasn't bowled over at first but they grew on me.
VS. 93' - VITALOGY 94'
The obsession began and they became my favourite band - this hasn't changed. My parents moved to the states (I was in the UK) and I started to internally crumble under the pressures of teenage crapness and Lord of the Flies style goings on. Music and literature became my retreats.
VITALOGY 94' - NO CODE 96'
Still at Boarding School, still disaffected and becoming more rebellious. Got in trouble a lot. Did drugs, wore crazy ensembles, did destructive things.
NO CODE 96' - YIELD 98'
Was stunned by No Code, it made so much sense to me. I abandoned the miserable constraints of school and went to college to complete my secondary education when my parents moved back to the UK. Living at home again was horrible - to them I was still the 11 year old girl who left to go to school and this drove me mad. Met my first love and it went from slightly disturbing to donwright psychologically damaging in under two years. Saw Pearl Jam for the first time and it was awe inspiring.
YIELD 98' - BINAURAL 00'
Broke with first love and lost my best friend at around the same time. Met some one who changed my life for the better. Got my first full time job. Saw Pearl Jam again and felt completely attuned to the world around me in a way I hadn't done since I'd lost my religious convictions a few years before.

Decided the corporate world would kill my soul eventually and chose to go to University to find some sort of deeper meaning to existence. Got engaged.

Changed my University course, met the most amazing group of people who allowed me to be myself. Broke up with fiance because I realised he was not the right person to spend the rest of my life with. Met a new person who I quickly realised WAS the right person. Graduated from Uni, got depressed because I didn't know what to do next, found a job I hated, got very ill.
PEARL JAM 06' - TODAY
Got married, found a job I loved but got made redundant. This prompted me to go back to Uni to do a Masters degree. I did the MA and loved every single moment of it and am now looking for a vocation that will make me feel I am contributing something helpful and meaningful to the world. I also went through a course of therapy that finally helped me address the oppressive loneliness, worthlessness and fear I have struggled with for many years.
I was still a kid...my uncle died in 1992, then my dad got injured at work and things started going really sour in my family...finished elementary school and started junior high in the fall of '93.
VS. 93' - VITALOGY 94'
This was around the time I started listening to alternative music...my friend gave me a bootleg cassette of August and Everything After by Counting Crows, and I started listening to the radio more frequently. Got a short haircut that everyone made fun of. Also started slacking in school and writing short stories.

Not too much to report...started acting...had to get glasses...started high school in the fall of '95.

Made a bunch more friends, some of whom I still am in contact with. Became addicted to the Beatles. Started doing a bunch more extracurricular activities so I wouldn't have to go home much. Got my first summer job at an amusement park.

Started listening to Pearl Jam, became best friends with the person who introduced me to them. Graduated high school in '99, then had the worst year of my life from the end of '99 to the middle of '00. Attempted suicide, almost dropped out of college. Got a new job.

Became a vegetarian. Met the love of my life. Went to my first Pearl Jam concert. Moved out of my parents' house permanently in '01. Stayed in school, lost a ton of weight because I could barely afford to feed myself. One of my best friends died in the summer of '02.

Got my BA, graduated in the spring of '03. My grandpa died on my birthday. Moved to Chicago in '04. Got engaged at the end of '05. Switched jobs like 4 times.

Got married in '07. Had a fallout with my (now ex) best friend, and haven't seen her since. Got a decent job.
No Code came out during my first year of University. I remember Who You Are being released that summer...was quite the departure for the band.
Yield came out during University, right before i met my gf of the last 10 years. This was also the first tour that i got to see the band live.

Riot Act, Lost Dogs, RVM, Pearl Jam....last albums the band released before my big 3-0.
Kind of amazing that this has been my favorite band through my early teens and into my early 30s (and still going strong!).
Started sixth grade in '91. I remember seeing the Alive video for the first time and falling in love with the band imediately, but Guns N' Roses had just released The Use Your Illusion Albums and thats all i listened to.

Started eighth grade & was one of the few that was listening to "rock" music. At the time daughter was my favorite track off the record. Also remember going to the mall and seeing a line of a few hundred people hoping to get tickets for their show at The Masonic Temple in Detroit.

Started ninth grade and would always hang out at the local music shop bought Vitalogy on vinyl so i could hear it a week before. Also got my first real girlfriend in '95 & that opened up a whole new obsession. (still listening to the Use Your Illusion records.)

This is when my pearl jam obsession reached new heights. Who You are blew my mind the first time i heard it. It is still my favorite Pearl Jam song to this day. Nothing real exciting going on in my life, junior year in high school kinda lost & disinterested I guess.

Yield released January of senior year. Remember getting real excited for spring break. Also being upset when i heard Jack Irons was leaving the band as i figured that hearing Who You Are live would not happen. Went to my first Pearl Jam show August 18 1998 at Breslin Arena MSU. Went to college & broke up with the girlfriend i started going out with way back in '95 in April of '99. I also had turned 19 in the fall of 1998 & living just minutes from Canada in Detroit my friends would go over to Windsor and get drunk 3 - 4 days a week. Grades suffer.

1999 was the year I was properly introduced to Pearl Jam when I heard Last Kiss on the radio and was blown away! I taped it and kept playing it.

High School sucked, I was one of the very few into rock music, everyone else was into crap dance music and gangster rap. My school sucked, all the kids were idiots.
Got drunk for the first time, loved it.
Started discovering so much great rock music thanks to the internet.

Final years of High School, not sure what the hell to do after high school.
Trying to enter into courses. Got my first job, part time at a fast food place.

In my course still studying, had my first bad bouts of anxiety, panic attacks & depression. My first panic attack was in class, I was trying to hide it, ended up going home. Shit times.

Pearl Jam my shining light in these tough times we live in today.
Still battling with my demons, me and my friends have stopped doing things we used to do, don't see them as much, they have all moved on got girlfriends and yeah we are all grown up. Bit depressed as things have/are changing and I am in my first full time career job after graduating from university so I am under pressure to perform and still single which sucks.
Living at home fighting with parents a lot, looking forward to moving out but seems impossible with this financial crisis.
Arrrrrr. Thank god for good music I listen to, such as Pearl Jam.

Sophomore in High school. Listened to lots of butt rock and english music in the 80's, moved on to hip-hop, RHCP, and some punk, since Poison and bands of that ilk sucked. Hung out with some older kids from high school that introduced me to TOTD, Nirvana, Mudhoney, AIC, and PJ. I was always the guy that collected the b-sides and made mix-tapes for people. Got invited to see PJ twice, couldn't go, school night :mad:
VS. 93' - VITALOGY 94'
Finally saw PJ with Blind Melon and Neil Young. Blew me away like I knew it would. Started College, listened to a lot of PJ on my mp . . . er Discman
Got into the local Portland Music Scene. Started snowboarding a lot. Bought the Vitalogy Vinyl since it came 2 weeks early so I could record tapes for friends.
VITALOGY 94' - NO CODE 96'
Doing the same as the VS.- Vitalogy era. Started working at a Skate/Snowboard shop. Got exposed to the indie scene a little more.
Getting burned out of school and home, partying a little too hard at the time.
NO CODE 96' - YIELD 98'
Blown away by No Code and SVT. Still going to college, getting nowhere.
Moved out of home for the first time with my some friends. Had keggers every friday night. Discovered the internet.
YIELD 98' - BINAURAL 00'
Yield tour, my 1st multiple show tour. Portland, Seattle. Moved to Utah to get away from everything. Had a great time, got my mind right. Got my Microsoft certifications.

Got homesick and told my friends to meet me in Vegas for a PJ show. To my surprise about 20 or so of my friends showed up in Vegas. Stayed at New York, New York and watched the Subway series then went to the show. None of us had a clue that it was the 10th anniversary show, Amazing time.
Moved back to Oregon in 01'

This is actually just an excuse to bump the thread because I want to read more of these. I can't understand why more people haven't responded - it's great to know how all of our lives can be mapped and have been influenced by PJ's career.
As for the question: I supposed the word 'bizarre' or 'interesting' is better than 'crazy'. It was simply that I wished to express myself through my outward appearance, so odd combinations and gopping hair colours were the order of the day. Friends actually refused to go out with me on a number of occassions because of what I was wearing. One particularly fetching combination I recall was neon pink tights, Taz boxer shorts (yes, I know I'm a girl), a multi coloured Aztec faces RHCP t-shirt, Dr Martens, an indigo and white flannel shirt and bright red hair with various 'ornaments' stuck in it. This may illicit little response in some places but my school was not that kind of place. It does seem pretty tame now in comparison to some of my later sartorial incarnations and with the turn that fashion is taking these days towards creativity, bright colours and all sorts of madness.

Was at my first job after college for two years. My first wife started at the company as my subordinate. Was supposed to go to Lolla but work interfered. Moved in together. Changed jobs so that we did not work together. Survived the first WTC bombing, walking down 98 floors. Got married and immediately realized it was a huge mistake. Moved to Richmond, VA because the wife got a good job. I consulted.
VS. 93' - VITALOGY 94'
My wife and I stopped talking. Separated after 6 months of marriage. Moved back to Queens. Got my job back with my first company. Worked 90-100 hour work weeks. No real social life. Had the life changing event when took a 6 week trip to New Zealand/Fiji with College friends. Vitalogy came out when on the trip.

Stopped smoking pot. Worked even harder. Sporatic girlfriends and hookups when time permitted. Wow that is depressing. Not much over two years.

Left my first job for good and took exec job on Wall Street (Best job I ever had). Met my wife (first one doesn't count). Best times of my life. Fell in love, moved in together. Bought a place in Manhattan.
YIELD 98' - BINAURAL 00'
Got married. Beautiful wedding. My wife started her own company. She got pregnant just as Binaural was released. Promoted to Managing Director and had 30 people working for me.

My son Cole was born. Raised him in our apartment and life was perfect until 9/11. Changed everything. Looked for house out of the city. Bought a place in NJ. Wife got pregnant with #2.
RIOT ACT 02' - PEARL JAM 06'
We had Logan in Dec of 02. Crazy kid. Then I got very sick, which lasted all through 02-05. Bed ridden for a lot of it. Worked through a lot. In and out of the hospital. Was the most awfuly times. Then wife got pregnant with #3. Right as she was about to be born they discovered a misdiagnosis and a 3 hour surgery cured me. Had my beautiful daughter Mackenzie 3 weeks after surgery. Lost 56 pounds while I was sick. Also screwed up my career as my subordinate took my job. Got new job at another bank and was very happy.
PEARL JAM 06' - TODAY
Start of new job was terrific. Then the markets crashed in summer of 07 and has not been the same since. On verge of losing job but am holding on. Went to see my First PJ show in 08 (MSG II) and saw eddie solo too. Starting posting here. Kids and wife are wonderful. Celebrating 10 years of marriage.
