Beale Street Music Festival

I have gone to this festival a few times in the past. It's in May and usually a pretty good time. Lots of random bands. Lastnight I received an email from them. The email was a survey to vote on music acts that you would like to see there next year. It had a list of artists that they are considering. Can't remember all the bands on the list but here are a few: Pearl Jam, Weezer, Kings of Leon, My Morning Jacket, Snoop Dogg, Beck, Alice in Chains.

I'm sure they won't get all of these obviously but I'm thinking if they are considering Pearl Jam maybe they know Pearl Jam is available. Maybe they are going to tour around that time. Maybe wishful thinking but that's what I'm hoping. It would be bad ass if they play down there though. It's a cool festival in a cool city with lots of delicious food.

memphisinmay.com is the website. There is a Beale Street Music Festival link to click on there. You can sign up for the news letter to get updates. They may send you the survey. I think the line up is usually announced in early March.

  • Hell Yeah! Beale St Music Fest. Damn I miss it.

Of course Pearl Jam will play my hometown now that I moved away! Really wouldnt surprise me at all. Even if I couldnt go I would be glad they were playing in Memphis.
I used to do drugs. I still do, but I used to, too.

  • I went to the Beale St. Music Fest every year growing up and saw PJ for the first time in Memphis. I have always dreamed of them playing the festival because it is always a good time and very diverse. I have seen great acts such as Bob Dylan, Blues Traveler, Black Crowes, Incubus, Widespread Panic, B.B. King, The Offspring, Three Six Mafia, and Stone Temple Pilots, many on the same weekend!

Not to mention it's always so cheap to go! I want to say three-day passes are around or below $50!

It would be a dream come true...

one of the better events in a shithole of a city that I lived in from 89' - 02' , I went to a many of the Beale St Musicfests, the only negative would be if it rains and the park turns into a foot of mud. I remember seeing Bush and STP in a mudpit one year. Sometimes it was brutally hot others perfect. I think you would rather see them at the Forum than at the fest.

I was at this one and got kicked in the head at the STP show....one of my great concert stories.
Oh please, let it rain today, this city's so filthy, like my mind in ways . . .

  • I've been going to Memphis in May/Beale Street Music Festival since the late 80's. I've not been since 05. MIM is a lot of fun, as long as its not raining or hasn't rained in the past month. The size of the venue has decreased & had moved completely west of Riverside Dr. It used to totally cover Riverside & you could actually sit up on the levie. I think MIM would be great for a PJ show, but I'm not sure that the organizers would be ready for a band on PJ's level or it's followers.
I wish I were the verb "to trust" and never let you down

Billy "Fuckin" Idol was there a few years ago and they handled his followers.

  • Never be to Memphis in May...saw Pearl Jam at the Pyramid in '00...very good show.

While I encourage them to travel to the south, an intimate gathering at The Ryman would be my ideal choice.

    AGREED!!!

I've seen several shows there, including the Pumpkins a year ago...incredible. Best show ever. Such an awesome venue. Perfect for Pearl Jam.

I concur. It rocks especially hard when the U of M basketball team is playing well. Thanks Calipari!

If anyone who stated they dislike Memphis would be willing to, I would like to know what it is about Memphis that you didn't like. I am not trying to argue, trust me....I know Memphis isn't for everyone. I just want your honest opinion. I have just heard "Memphis sucks" my whole life and never get to hear why......

Went to Memphis last weekend...stick to the tourist spots and you're golden.

The whole downtown area is great (lots of panhandling, but I guess that's to be expected).

New Daisy is a great venue, tons of great bars and the food is phenomenal (Rendezvous, etc.)

All that being said, I'd rather go to Nashville, but that's just personal preference.

Yeah, I'd like to know too. I know they have a high crime rate, but so do lots of other great cities.

Unlike you, though, I haven't heard "Memphis sucks" my wole life... pretty much just in this thread, actually.
