I'm wondering what all covers of JC songs are out there. I really dig the ones I've heard.

25 Minutes to Go - PJ
Ring of Fire - Social Distortion
Long Black Veil - Dave Matthews Band

Any others?

Ring of Fire - Social Distortion

Mike Ness (of Social D) also covered Long Black Veil on his solo album Cheating With Solitare.
"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.

The Band also recorded "Long Black Veil," as have The Deadstring Brothers. I also have a live version by Gillian Welch which is quite enjoyable.

Gillian Welch and David Rawlings (or The David Rawlings Machine) have performed "Jackson."

The International Submarine Band recorded "Folsom Prison Blues" and "I Still Miss Someone."

I have a couple live versions of Uncle Tupelo playing "Cocaine Blues."

I'm certain I must have at least a couple more, but this is all I can come up with at the moment.

no offense to you, but i absolutely hate this cover. Johnny Cash must be spinning in his grave.

that's your opinion and you are more than intitled to it but i disagree that johnny would not have liked it. Everlast actually brought the song to johnny's son (John Carter Cash) to make sure that he wasn't disrespecting johnny cash in any way. John told him that his father would have loved the version and to please release it.
You may be right that johnny would be turning in his grave, but his family disagree's with you.

  • People are going to say that they don't like the Everlast cover because they are not 'supposed' to like Everlast. I personally love it. To say Johnny Cash would be turning in his grave is disrespectful to Everlast, as well as Cash. The thing I liked about Johnny Cash is that he didn't give a shit what people thought, and he collaborated with whomever he chose. Props to Everlast for showing respect to one of the greatest ever.
  • NIN covered Hurt a few times ;)

you're right it is just my opinion, and it's not that I don't like Everlast, i've enjoyed many of his songs even before he went solo. I didn't know Cash's family was cool with the cover, that still doesn't change my mind about the song. I guess what i don't like about it is the Cypress Hill beat, i think it's ridiculous. It doesn't fit the song at all, it's like brushing your teeth and then drinking orange juice, a terrible flavor combo. I can't really speak for him, but i'm of the mind that Johnny would agree with me.

  • David Gray does a pretty good cover of Long Black Veil.

I don't know if I'd say I love it, but I liked it. I also am not ashamed to say I like Everlast and House of Pain. The man hasn't aged well though, has he? You can hardly recognize him from his "Jump Around" days.
