I'm sure this thread has been done many times but I haven't seen it.

For me it is hands down Achtung Baby. There are no weak songs on this album.

It's interesting because the first I heard it I wasn't in love with it. I wouldn't even say I was that big of a U2 fan at the time. I remember liking them the first time I saw the video for New Years Day as a youngster but I wouldn't say my musical tastes were very refined at that time. Everyone was dying over the Joshua Tree and then Rattle and Hum when I was in high school but maybe as a act of rebellion I didn't allow myself to really enjoy the music.

My roomate at the time Achtung Baby came out was a huge U2 fan and played it a ton. After listening to the entire album I quickly realized what a masterpiece it was. Since then they've been one of my favorite bands. Although the latest album was a big letdown for me, I feel confident in saying Achtung Baby is my all time favorite album.

Like a few of Pearl Jam's albums, the whole album is so strong that a given point in time I've probably said each of the songs was my favorite at that time.

I also liked Zooropa a lot and would rate that my second favorite U2 album. I am surprised so many people wrote that one off, including the critics, as a poor, quickly made follow up.

i love 'Boy'....so raw and experimental, a very new sound for the time it was recorded. Electric Co., An Cat Dubh, and Out of Control are favorites of mine...a top ten fave for me.

You know, that's the only U2 cd I don't have. I really need to get it.

oddly enough... right now im torn between the latest one and the first one... boy and how to dismantle an atomic bomb.

u2 is one band that i just cant ever rank their albums in a way that satisfies me. it totally depends on my mood becos each album is so different in tone and sound and style. but those 2 have been big lately. i do love the joshua tree and achtung baby as well though, and agree zooropa got a bad rap. i think id have more tiers than favorites... with certain albums always at the top and others more to the bottom.
  • The atomic album is right on my top3 (along with joshua and achtung)....

Funny to see all the hate albums like pop and zooropa create....mainly for a few things on the radio and media--

Zooropa........songs like stay, first time, zooropa, dirty day ...they sound very u2-ish.....if u take out numb,(which i love) daddy's, and lemon(one of my alll time fav) its a fair u2 album. Plus, i t contains the wanderer which is so cool to hear at the end of that album

Same with pop, manye people say is a techno album......but thats only the first 3 songs.......I find pop a weaker album because of the combination of songs and keys that made the album a bit somber than the title might suggest.

  • Zooropa, because it's unexpected and has great songs in it. It's thier most experimental album and captured the band at that moment in time the best. Second fave is Achtung because that just reinvented them entirely.
