Swing jazz

Anyone know of some good swing jazz albums? I for one loved the whole swing jazz craze in the late 90's. But except for the more contemporary artists (Brian Setzer Orchestra, Cherry Poppin Daddies, Squirrel Nut Zippers) I don't know any of the true pioneers of the swing jazz era. Swing is so full of life and timeless, you know?

On SACD, it is possibly the best sounding recording I have ever heard.

I would say check out the Glenn Miller Orchestra. They did "In the Mood" which I'd say is arguably the most well known swing song. Count Basie and Duke Ellington are probably worth checking out, though I think their material varies stylistically, especially Ellington's. He did all kinds of stuff. In other words, it might not all sound that much like modern swing bands, but it'll all be good.

As Hendrix78 says, Ellington. Although, really, it's more orchestral jazz. Totally transcends swing or anything like that, which I tend to despise. The Duke is godly though.

It sounds obvious, but I'm a massive Rat Pack and Frank Sinatra fan. They did some of the best comedy-and-music shows I've ever heard and there's real satirical depth behind the apparent cheese. And I dare anyone NOT to like Mr. Bojangles by Sammy Davis Jr. Also Ella Fitz Gerald, Satchmo, Bing Crosby.... gimme some of that shit for a laugh.
