Ted Leo and the Pharmacists

Not much talk of them here, i searched Leo and Pharmacists and nothing.

So here's a thread about the openers for Pearl Jam June 19-30.

I just walked down to Zulu records and got the vinyl.

"living with living"

Are these guys any good? im literally opening it right now and putting it on.

Any experience with them? Live or otherwise?

I just saw Ted Leo (solo) open for the Dropkick Murphys in Dorchester (Boston) St. Patty's day weekend. A homecoming of sorts for both, since Ted Leo is also from the Boston scene. Once I got past his voice which annoyed me at first, I thought his music was pretty decent. But those looking for Kings of Leon won't find it here. A lot of pop with a punk edge to it.

I have most if not all his stuff (including a Chisel release). Shake the Sheets is my favorite (if I had to pick one).

Pretty darn good opening act IMO. His music is very listenable, not a whole lot not to like.

Huge Ted Leo fan and one of the few that is just as excited, if not moreso, to see Ted Leo open for PJ in Mansfield ...

Oh, and "Hearts of Oak" is a MUST pick up!

Ted Leo is one of the gems of American musicians. Pretty much love everything from/about the dude. That said, I'm not sure how well his music will translate in big ampitheaters.

Shake the Sheets is one hell of an album! Would love to attend just one show just to see TL and PJ. Too bad book my flights to the west coast for september so i´m still hoping for some more shows in the west.

I saw him at Lolla and they were decent, but I'm going to Va. Beach over MSG so I can see KOL open

One of my favorite bands out there. Leo is the man, just about everything he's done is golden(you can have the first Pharmacist LP). Chisel was a very good band, but his stuff under TL + Pharmacists is spectacular. Shake The Sheets is one of the best straight-up rock albums of the decade. Tyranny of Distance is right up there with it. Living With The Living is a bit different, it is very, very poppy, but after a while I grew to love it too. Hearts of Oak is very good as well.

You can't go wrong with Leo, great performer. I'd love to see him on a huge stage, that would be wild. I know he is going to rock his ass off up there, he always does.

I must admit I don't know too much about these guys... Will be interesting to go down and check them out before pearl jam take the stage.

I´ve never seen the band living, just some videos. and i can bet they will make a great opening for PJ concert. I would love to be there..

i've seen him a few times now. it was always a really good show. i think he's a great performer....though he always seems to hurt himself onstage. always a good show, imo.

I totally agree!!! We saw Ted Leo here in Philly. I have been a fan for about 2 years and my husband was on the fence but was up for the show. It was one of the best times we've had - esp the way TL talks to everyone and is just so comfortable. I am stoked to see them opening for PJ though I am nervous that the big arena will wash out the sound and the intimacy of it all. My mate disagrees with me thinking he can totally step up to the larger venue and that the crowd similarity (of PJ and TL&P) should work well.

Ted Leo kicks ass... I only have "Shake the Sheets" and "Hearts of Oak", but those two albums have been in my regular rotation for probably the past year or so.

I've never heard of them before Pearl Jam announced that they were going to be openers...but I've watched some of their stuff on youtube and will probably go get one of their albums.
They're really good!

I saw them open for Death Cab last year. I vaguely remember them, but I do remember being extremely impressed and wanting to check them out further...but I honestly forgot! Now I have an opportunity to buy a CD or two in preparation.

Nothing against Kings of Leon, I love them, but it's cool that we get someone I know I like if it can't be them.

I'm actually suprised how little poeple are aware of them on here, between KOL and Ted Leo it's not even close, I saw him play a club show in October and he did solo covers of Dancing in the dark and dirty old town which was wicked, of course the fact that the three albums I have are amazing doesn't hurt, my friend says hearts of oak but I say shake the sheets

"hearts of oak"(maybe) & "shake the streets"(for sure)

is there alotta love for the new cd called "living with the living" or should i just not bother on that...if the band is playing a lot of those new songs at shows now maybe i should pick it up. thoughts and comments appreciated. thanks

He mixes it up well at the show- We saw him right after living with the living was released and he still played almost the entire s the s album...

Living with the Living is a good album, not up to Hearts of Oak standards in my mind, still *plenty* of great tracks ...

i saw KoL, not really knowing them...with incubus and perry open for pj in nijmegen, and was truly pleasantly surprised with KoL. so when i read they won't be opening for any of the pj shows i will be attending, i was a bit disappointed. that said, i do look forward to - hopefully - being introduced to someone new, and worthy.

I'm ecstatic about PJ choosing TL & TP to open. I've seen them 4 times, including open air in front of a crowd I'd say was about 1500 at one of the main stages at Coachella. Great sound, very listenable. Definitely planning on arriving at the various venues early.

I was there for that (Coachella) .... he drew the awful mid afternoon "hotter than the surface od the sun" slot ... yet, Ted still rocked that day!

im really likin la costa brava. the vocal layering at the end is really cool. im excited to see ted leo now, but i still need that first album, its not on the torrent sites, and no vinyl of it on ebay :(

If you're talking about the self-titled, don't bother. It's a jumbled mess of half-songs and experimenting. Some of the songs he started there would end up on "Tyranny of Distance" in impressive form, but the self-titled has little redeeming value.

If you want more of him, find the two LPs by the band Chisel, that was his pre-Pharmacists band, they are pretty good.

im talking about the scarves album.

anybody into him yet? i dont think i will love too much of what ted leo has to offer unfortunately. ah well. can drink a little longer before PJ comes on in DC>
