Artist: (name here)
Essential Album: (best album to get into the band/artist)
Why I Like Them: (BRIEF description)
So Here's Mine.
Artist: T. REX, aka Marc Bolan
Essential Album: ELECTRIC WARRIOR
WHY I LIKE HIM:
His albums and music are peace and lovey with trippy psychadelic 70s groove rock throughout. His catalogue goes much much deeper than his commercial "Bang A Gong" success. He's an amazing guitarist and his shit is great for when you want to rock out, but not that much. He's dead. His girlfriend drove their car into a tree. I have found hours of good stuff by him and maybe you will too!!!

Artist: The Levellers
Essential album: Zeitgeist
Why I Like Them: I really don't know how to describe them, but i've heard the term folk/punk thrown around a few times (if that's possible). They were a very popular band in the 90's that seem to have dissappeared into obscurity, but who are still around and touring. They even have their own festival.
Anyway, WHY I like them. Their music has such a positive attitude and a great message aswell. In a time where there is a lot of music without meaning, they mean a lot to me. The phrase "There's only one way of life, and that's your own" will always remain with me.
I don't wanna think, I wanna feel

Essential Album: You'd prefer an astronaught.
Essential Album - Underdogs
Why I like them -
Matt Good is an incredibly talented songwriter and 'Underdogs' rocks hard at sometimes and pauses for heart felt ballads in others. For me MGB is one of those bands that defines what it means to be Rock n' Roll. It's some of the most emotionally driven music I have ever heard and like Pearl Jam, I'll gladly share it with anyone. If you really get into this artist you may like 'Beautiful Midnight' more than 'Underdogs' but its really the best place to start. I really couldn't imagine my music collection without the Matthew Good Band.
the bad idea or me befallen by it?

Essential Album: Conductor
(IMO a better version of) Death Cab For Cutie
Artist: Luna
Essential Album:Bewitched
Bob Dylan meets Velvet Underground
Stars is a cool song, i really did not dig more than that one song though.
Motorpsycho - Trust us ( every album a different face )
Explosions in the sky - The earth is not a cold place (Sweat trippin' )
Blonde redhead - Misery is a butterfly (pure beauty, like elfs would sing)
Shipping news - Very soon and in good company (post rock)
You’re on the outside, never bound by such a spell.
Together in the darkness, alone in the light.
I took it upon me to be yours, Timmy,
I’ll lead your angels and demons at play tonight......»
Essential album: 1974's "Sundown"
Hey! Two norwegians on ur list. Well done
Motorpsycho are a pretty cool band, not too much fan of mr. Dybedahl tough, although he's got some decent songs. Heard the stuff he did in The National Bank? I would say that's his best work..
Artist: Kaizers Orchestra
Essential album: Maestro
Why I like them:
They're this brilliant mix between different genres; gypsy-music, rock, and bits of tons of more.. But they're not like this alternative band who's got to make the music just so it can be special, it seems like it just comes naturally for them. Their music's got tons of energy and they've created this fiction cowboy/war/mafia universe, where every record has its own story to tell within these universes. Their music is just so filled with energy and... well, trhey're just so damn great
Oh, and Tom Waits had their debut record "ompa til du dør" on his top 10 list of best albums..
I saw Kaizers Orchestra, really cool live act. I never heard the album, witch is weird cause I do have the solo album made by Janove Ottesen. To be truthfull I must say that I never listend cause a friend told me, the album wasn't as good as the gig.
But still three cheers for Kaizers Orchestra.

Album: Midwest Farm Disaster
Why I like this album: The man is a poet and a singer.
"She wakes up angry/and I'm bewitched." Luna were brilliant.
Essential Album: Good To Be Gone and Outdebox
Why I Like Them: http://www.soulhat.net/bonecrus.html
Essential Album(s): fingers crossed (2004) / in case we die (2005)
Why I Like Them: multi-instrumental band that makes an indie sound that goes easy on the ears. sometimes reminds me as a sweet, happy, funnier version of arcade fire (esp. the vocals) but they started the band before them. check their web site, it's very cute.

Essential Album(s): Starfish (1988)
Why I Like Them: They have an amazing ability to create an atmosphere. Starfish is their most accessible record. There are some hints of The Cure, R.E.M. and U2, but they are their own band.
They've been around for 25 years and are still playing the music they want. I respect them for that.
Unfortunaly, I haven't seen them live yet. Really wanted to, but lots of different reasons just haven't made it possible yet.
But I an imagine it would be quite an experience!
I've got the solo album too, but haven't listened that much to it either.. I mean; it's a great pop-record, but seems a bit too "mellow" for me.. Really different from the stuff he does with Kaizers, that's for sure..
Not saying that's a bad thing though
Ahh, I love that song and I quote that the odd time meself.
Anyway:
Artist: Josh Ritter
Essential Album: Hello Starling
Why I like him: Cross between Springsteen at times, Dylan at other times, the Waterboys and other folk rocky stuff at other times… and the opener on that album ‘Bright smile’ is simply gorgeous, for want of a better word. Even Joan Baez covered ‘Wings’.
Verona??? it's all surmountable
Dublin 23.08.06 "The beauty of Ireland, right there!"
Wembley? We all believe!
Copenhagen?? your light made us stars
Chicago 07? And love
What a different life
Had I not found this love with you
Albums: "Ré", "Cuatro Caminos".
One of, if not the, greatest band in Mexican history. Second, they're not only from my country, they're from my neighbourhood. I've had the pleasure of frequently running into them at the movies, restaurants, etc. On a frequent basis, great guys who've been playing great music for the last 16 years.
Artist: La Maldita Vecindad y Los Hijos del Quinto Patio
Album: "El Circo"
One of the great albums of the 90's, bar none, a little band from Mexico who impressed every critic worldwide with this release.
Essential Album: Mother Love Bone (a.k.a Stardog Champion)
Why I Like Them: I literally fell in love with the song Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns. In my opinion it is the best song ever written (this is coming from someone who loves Gates of Eden by Dylan). From hearing that song I obtained a compilation of their official music, comprised of an E.P, Shine and their first and only album, Apple.
Since The band contained Jeff and Stone from PJ they obviously had a draw for me but it was the singer, Andrew Wood who captivated me. I truly think that Andy was a unique person. He wrote big, 80's rock songs but with obscure references to classical stories such as "she jezebel's daughter" and "she's like a brunnhilda" that made their music somewhat more interesting and vital than other music from that period. Man of golden words is truly the one song that I've heard that best sums up the different feelings that music can bring to a person. In fact, MOGW describes exactly what Chloe Dancer/Crown of thorns does to me when I hear it.
Album: Self-Titled or "The Practice Of Joy Before Death"
Why? 2 of the most overlooked grunge-era albums. Shamefully underrated. Just ignore the third album.
Artist: Poster Children
Album: "Tool Of The Man"
Why? Pop-punk at its very best. Period.
Typo Man: "Thanks kidz, but remembir, stay in skool!"
