Ok here it is in a nut shell, Was in a band for 5 years, we were doing great...serious "life" things happened, we had to break up. Laid the guitar down for about a year until about a month ago. Now I've been writing a little and doing some REALLY rough recordings of it. Have about 6 songs forming. Almost finished with this one that I have tenatively titled "Drive" (as if there aren't enough of those out there) and would like to share. I don't really know how to post it though. Maybe I can yousendit or something. I just want opinions on it. Again its really rough.....anyone interested?????

I should also warn that i don't consider myself a vocalist but I try :)

Thats the prob.. I don't have a link or really know how to post it...

The songs I've been writing are mellow acoustic types, mostly because I sold all my gear.. all i have left is my trusty acoustic

if you post it, i can recommend rapidshare and megaupload. but i never used those things.

  • It wasn't bad, you sound like a friend of mine. I gotta say that I wasn't a fan of the chorus (drive, drive, drive... and then the echo part), but I enjoyed it. I liked the solo too.

thanks, I was thinking about toning down the reverb alittle.

i enjoyed the intro (remimded me a little of 'bossa nova), the vocals on the verses and that part after the 2nd chorus with the guitar solo.

didn' t like the chorus and that guitar effect was a bit annoying for me.

but hey, it's something that i would hear in a rainy saturday afternoon...

but seriously, i liked. keep the music flowing!

hey buddy, I'm in the exact same situation...my band of several years broke upin the fall..i've kinda been lost and looking for a way back into the music..trust me, I know exactly where you're at right now. I think maybe just try to get out and play a few local jams, and hopefully meet some people and it snowballs. I dunno, i'm just trying to figure it out myself. I can't listen to your stuff at work, i'll give it a listen when I get home.

not bad man. For the "When I'm gone Is shall be free" I would try and stretch your vocals , louder.

I haven't listened to it all yet but stretch out the "drive" in the chorus...
Power without Perception is virtually useless and therefore of no true value

wow, thanks for all the feeback! I knew I could trust the opinions of fans of the greatest band on earth!!!

couple of things in my own defense (for lack of a better term)

I'm still learning the recording program I'm using (cakewalk)
I only have an acoustic staight to the computer, and 1 sure microphone. So I'm pretty limited to what I can do.

I agree with all of you on the Drive, drive, drive, part I need to change that up alittle, I think i'll tone down the reverb over all, I use it because it covers the flaws of my singing a little :)

I have a couple more demos near completion if anyone is interested I'll post them. otherwise I'll keep it to this one. I know there's probably thousands of people like me out there doing this kind of thing and this might not be the forumn to do this on. It's just nice to have people hear my ideas again...it's been awhile...Thanks again!!!
