Think it all depends on which Pink Floyd era you dig the most. I prefer post-Syd myself, though it doesn't mean I don't listen to Bike every now and again.

    Syd Barret IS Pink Floyd...
there wouldn't be post-syd floyd if it wasn't syd barret

    ;)
  • I saw him the other day in Budgens, buying peppers. You'd never see Roger Waters doing that.
  • In the UK, Syd's Floyd has always been considered by many music fans to be vastly superior to the Waters version, regardless of how many units Dark Side shifted. But your average angsty rock fan is going to like Waters's Floyd more because it's more sulky and less experimental than Syd's manic genius.

    My two old pennies.

hell, aside from the '75 shot in Mason's book, I wouldn't recongnize Syd if he punched me in the face.

I don't know any Floyd fan who doesn't have an appreciation for Barret's work. I prefer Waters.

exactly. i really like his solo albums, too. imagine if syd hadn't lost it and him and roger could've been like lennon/mccartney...

roger's song on piper...just plain fucking sucks...i think there was a lot of pressure on syd then. i have a few live things of him w/ floyd, not many and they are pretty good.

i would have to say out of all 3 floyd's i like dave's the least
    standin above the crowd
he had a voice that was strong and loud and
i swallowed his facade cos i'm so
    eager to identify with
    someone above the crowd
someone who seemed to feel the same
someone prepared to lead the way

"Piper At The Gates Of Dawn" is Pink Floyd's best album

I like all Floyd. The only complaint I have is that there's not enough Floyd in the world.

Two guys who had a big influence on me that were totally loony, Syd and Skip Spence.

You know what is actually cool is to take the Bike vocal track and lay it on the Interstellar Overdrive guitar riff. It actually works.

My favorite response to a thread today.
