which bands are the top puck rock acts??

i want to get into this kind of music.... a song by Saosin called "i can tell there was an accident here earlier" completely blew my mind.
I have faced it, A life wasted...

Take my hand, my child of love
Come step inside my tears
Swim the magic ocean,
I've been crying all these years

Don't forget the band X. Once a vital force in the LA music scene!

reeferchief put a damn good list up. besides leaving out X as the previous poster mentioned, a few newer ones to include would be:

    minor threat
    agent orange
    bouncing souls

and even though they're older bands, and not necessarily encompassing the "normal punk" sound, check out MC5's and the New York Dolls.
    Live Free or Die!
  • The Anti-Heroes (my fave)
    Cock Sparrer
    Flipper
    Wizo
    the rezillos
    vice squad
    Toy Dolls (another fave)

I'm a DJ for a radio station that broadcasts out of everett Wa, I got a rock show but it's particularly punk. Tune in Monday from 8-10pm my time at kser.org and you'll hear a wicked lineup. Skip the middle man and let me tell you what's cool.

  • Anti-Flag, Rancid and Fugazi are at the top of my list. They stray away from the typical punk riffs and drum beats.

  • the best thing to do is listen to the pre-punk bands that made the genre happen:

    More older acts -

    The Dead Boys

    Television, Patti Smith
(these 2 don't have a 'typical' older punk sound but they were important bands of the time)
    R.i.p. Rigoberto Alpizar.
    R.i.p. My Dad - May 28, 2007
    R.i.p. Black Tail (cat) - Sept. 20, 2008
