please help me determine the name of this musician.

he was a folk and/or rock musician. he was either american or from uk.

his career was short and died mostly because he was accused of being a Bob Dylan copycat.

he sung a song in which at a certain point he hums "De-De-de-de-de-de".
I have faced it, A life wasted...

Take my hand, my child of love
Come step inside my tears
Swim the magic ocean,
I've been crying all these years

    When sundown pales the sky
I want to hide a while behind your smile
And everywhere I'd look, your eyes I'd find.

For me to love you now
Would be the sweetest thing, 'twould make me sing

Soon as i saw this i thought Donavan. Check the beat club performance of Atlantis on youtube, one of my favourite songs ever. Might recognise it from Goodfellas when they are killing Billy batts in the bar.
People say im paranoid. Well, they dont say it, but i know that's what they are thinking.
