Learning the guitar...

Ok, so after years and years of putting it off, I've finally picked up a guitar and decided to learn. Can anyone give me some PJ songs that are relatively easy to play on acoustic?

You will be moved for this one. But try "thumbing my way", it is easy. Go to "given to wail" it has all the shit.

i disagree completely.. its not a 'first song' to learn.. lots of finger movements... weird chord shapes etc

Yeah, I've been playing off and on for more than 10 years, and though I still suck balls, I can play most ed songs.

I can't play Thumbing My Way. I can't use my pinkie well enough for that.

    Wishlist
    Small Town
    Corduroy
    Not For You

    are all pretty simple.
everybody wants the most they can possibly get
for the least they could possibly do
  • Foosteps
    Wishlist
    Last Kiss

these are the easiest to play, IMO.

The first one I learned was Driftin
G_C_D and a little A in there. Thats it

Before you do anything you should learn the basic chords
    A
    C
    D
    E
    F
    G
Then the Minors and majors and sharps etc...

Most of the easy ones have been mentioned.

'not for you' is an easy one to add to the list of the ones already suggested. It's mostly just three chords and the intro-main riff is just an open E chord that you strum and then slide up to the 4th and 5th fret position.

Lot's of practice and good luck with your playing, you will soon be carving it up! :)
  • last kiss for sure, its 4 chords, and it doesnt change
just play them over and over and you have the song, its easy to sing along with too
    G Em C D

I'll ride the wave where it takes me.
  • do you have any idea what the pick progression is right before Ed sings the first line of the song?

he does a little strumming followed by some picking that leads into the singing...

i can't put my finger on it but i know it has to do more with D and G maybe?

It's just a D. He strums it once, then picks the D string a few times, then strums once, then picks the D string...etc.

For an electric: Epiphone Les Paul (upgrade it later with Gibson or Duncan pickups)

    Acoustic: Probably a Takamine.

You will get a different opinion from pretty much everyone though!
  • I think maybe a fender mexi strat might be easier to play and affordable?

    i'll second this.

first guitar i and still the only one i have.

i like the fact that my dad wouldn't let me get an electric but made me learn on an acoustic.

    Long Road.

I suck out loud. Maybe my Message Pit time would be spent better on practice.
