Your Favourite Local Bands

After reading http://forums.pearljam.com/showthread.php?t=224368, I was thinking that maybe the reason that the same 20 bands get discussed here all the time, is because it is becoming harder and harder to find new quality music. So, I thought maybe we should have a thread to talk about our favourite local bands that nobody's heard of. It should be a good oppertunity to hear about to new bands, plus it'll be a a good chance for some of these bands to be heard by someone outside of their hometown.

Anyway, generally the bands I'm checking out in Winnipeg are

American Flamewhip (seriously badass) http://www.myspace.com/americanflamewhip

Moses Mayes & The Funk Family Orchestra
http://www.myspace.com/mosesmayes

The Fabulous Kildonans

Hot Live Guys
http://www.hotliveguys.ca

The Farrell Brothers
http://www.myspace.com/thefarrellbros

The Perpetrators
http://www.perps.ca/

and of course, I have to plug my friends' bands

The Braggarts

Hello, I love you. Won't you tell me your name?

  • check out Waltham & Damone, 2 local Boston bands from the suburbs. Damone is getting some attention and airplay. Their song is called "Out here all night" or something like it.

It's straight on rock and roll/ bluesy type of music with some great songs, funny lyrics easy...and from belgium, which is always a plus (considering I am from Holland and we create a bunch of cr*p).
I saw them live and it was a nice party! Again no real deepness into it, just nice little 'ol rock!

What do people think of song "Still stands a tree"?
Easy to know who their influence is?
  • OCEANSIZE

From Manchester rather than local NE England but definately worth a listen if you want something very different. They're the only band other than Pearl Jam that I can listen to over and over without getting a bit bored with them

  • Are you too good to tango with the poor poor boys?
  • MOZAY!!!!!

these boys have more talent in their shoes then almost any band to be signed in the past 5 years! they're originally from northern va, we all went to high school together and now go to UNC Wilmington. Wilmington has a great local music scene and Mozay is really starting to grow. I know good things are coming for them. I mean if bands like Good Charolette or Fall Out Boy or Nickelback for christ's sake get signed then it's only a matter of time that someone notices what real talent is and picks these boys up!!!

check them out!! make them your friend and if anyone is in the south eastern NC area come down and check them out sometime! ENJOY! :)

There is this band from atlanta they have put out 3 albums and a couple ep's. Got together early 00's. Some of the best metal around you may have heard of them they are called Mastodon :D

Just kidding i know you are looking more for unsigned bands. I have not checked out a ton of local music here in atlanta :(

Orphan Kids were a pretty cool band i saw a while back though.

There is a cool metal band named the Baroness from Savannah that i have seen a couple times and they rock pretty hard.
