Slightly odd that this is Jerry Hannan performing the song at some random house concert; can someone confirm that this is actually the original singer guy?

i dont know if i agree....either way both are good

there is something about watching a person who wrote their own song singing it, you can tell he is into it

Nonsense. Nothing can be played better or sung better than the original.
  • thanks for posting this. he sounds a lot like bob dylan

    sorry, i disagree.

for example, i like the way joe strummer's version of "redemption song" sounds a lot better than the original.

  • I know i'm biased, but i definitely prefer Ed's version. But only by a a very thin margin; hard to compare when there isn't actually an original studio recording by Jerry Hannan. Still, i think Ed's voice suits the song much more. It's smoooooooooooooth like chocolate!

    Seriously?

I think you all are misinterpreting my point here. I am just saying the original of anything has to be considered "better", the fact that it was first. Otherwise the cover would never been made.

but since Ed recorded it first, his version IS the original, not a cover, the fact he didn't write it being irrelevant.. that's why it qualifies for the oscars/grammies.

1 thing only I prefer in the Hannan version (his voice is nowhere as interesting as Ed's):
the 'you can't do that' line..it really jars in Ed's version, but here it kind of works.
