If a man speaks in a forest and there is no woman around to hear him, is he still wrong?
"I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"
Couple other favorites for me are John Densmore and Phil Collins
On spunk and personality alone, Keith gets it for me.
Part of "best drummer" for me also has to include the context of the band. There are alot of better drummers than Keith, but i don't like the bands ... and in that sense, i therefore agree with KM taking the cake.
I also forgot Dino Campanella from Dredg. Probably the most underated(or even unheard of) drummer there is out there. The man can play the drums and piano at the same time...pfft. Seeing him live is truly an experience.

one of my co-workers is trying to say its phil collins but i'm saying bullshit.
who are your choices?
Seen the TV advert for chocolate with the Gorilla drumming to a Phil Collins track? The Gorilla get's my vote over Phil.
Seriously, it's impossible to say who is the best. If you could put Buddy Rich behind the kit with Led Zeppelin, I doubt if he'd cut it. If you could have stuck Bonzo in front of a big band, the same would have applied.
To be a great drummer, you have to suit the band you're playing in. For me John Bonham is the greatest because of his swing and groove, but put him in a band like Tool and he would be lost IMO. Jack Irons is one of my favourites for his recorded work with PJ and RHCP - Matt Cameron for his work in Soundgarden, but in PJ he sounds totally wrong IMO.
Some more of my favourite drummers
Chad Smith
Ginger Baker
Danny Carey
Larry Mullen - very underrated
Michael Lee (Page and Plant)

Phil Collins was an outstanding drummer, but not the best.
Buddy Rich was the man - otherworldly.
John Bonham was one of the best. As was Ginger Baker. As was Keith Moon. As was Bill Bruford.
Terry Bozzio was/is great.
Danny Carey deserves a mention.
Those are just some folks that might enter into this discussion.

the man has some amazing creativity on his kit.
