2003 is full of shows that you can point to and say, one of the best shows of the tour and this one fits that category. Those last 5 shows of the spring tour were incredible and this one holds its own against the 3 encore marathons that closed this leg out. One of my favorite bootlegs to listen to and one hell of a setlist:
set: Crazy Mary, Spin The Black Circle, Hail Hail, Save You, Green Disease, Elderly Woman, Nothing As It Seems, Even Flow, Insignificance, Given To Fly, You Are, 1/2 Full, Daughter/(WMA)/(Androgynous Mind), Corduroy, Love Boat Captain, Black, Do The Evolution
enc 1: Animal, Go, Glorified G, Better Man, Alive
enc 2: You've Got To Hide Your Love Away, Soon Forget, Jeremy, Fortunate Son, Rockin' in the Free World, Yellow Ledbetter
Wow..I can't believe that was 5 years ago. That was definitely one of the best PJ shows I have ever been too. I wish they would play there again. The crowd was awesome!
I think this was exactly what my first post on the old board was the day after on 4/29/03. After lurking for a couple of years, I just had to post that.
I still think the energy from that crowd plus all the friends I've made over the years is what keeps driving me to follow the band on tour. That and some kickass music.
But yeah, after 35 shows and 3 EV shows, that was the best crowd I ever was a part of.
It reminds of what Rubysdad wrote in the Riot Act program, (I'm summarizing as I'm at work), that the crowd becomes a part of the band and the music during a show and their energy is shared by the band.
It was the first show in the city of Philadelphia in 11 years and the crowd sure didn't disappoint that night.
Spectrum 0-3 was Amazing. Great Crazy Mary opener, Creed reference during GD, and great conversation from Ed all night. They did not "rush" through all of their songs like they have a tendency to do. Excellent, Excellent show.
That's the show I met my friend Dave at. Some of you know that story.
It was so hot that day - for April, I remember getting some major sun burn waiting in that 10 club line.
Yeah, the girl I took with me got major sunburn as well. It was her first PJ concert after loving the band for years. She joined the ten club the very next morning.
But, I don't remember it being that hot. I remember it more being an awesome spring day and just perfect tailgate weather.
I remember it being perfect for tailgating... and since I wasn't in the 10C, no line for me
Yeah, that was the tour with the whole block system and since my number isn't that great (212xxx), I didn't wait in line all day either. I still wound up with floor tix about 25 or so rows back in the center so I had no complaints.
I got to the parking lot around 1 and hopped in line around 4 or so and got my tickets in like 20 minutes and then went right to Bully's where I saw 5 Against 1 play for the first time.
I guess I just think of it as being hot because of the sunburn aspect.
We had a lot of fun tailgaiting that day too, after I met Dave and his wife (in front of me in the 10club line) we went to their car and hung out till we went inside.
and for the lucky ones who mad a weekend of Philly, Millwood pitched a no hitter the day before.
This was my son't first show, he was 14 at the time. He's now been to 15.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of
arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to
slide in sideways, BBQ sandwich in one hand, cold beer in the other,
body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "Woo Hoo what a
ride" ! Unknown
I can not believe it has been 5 years........great version of Betterman that night.
That's one of the best versions of "Better Man."
"I've known you for a few years now/I see you when I come to town/And now you've grown up good, you've grown up strong/You've grown up with the people you belong with/And I feel that I belong, too"
Great memories of a great show. Got the tix , Section 301-R 9-S 5 & 6, as a biirthday gift. Stood up the whole show like I always do, much to the chagrin of several in my section, and had beer thrown in my direction ( it missed ) as a result. From the first strains of Crazy Mary to the last strains of Yellow Ledbetter, it was two and a half hours of heaven on earth.
It was also my first day of sobriety. I was seeing my favorite band and didn't want to get blasted, my usual state of being when not at work, and either waste time in a beer line , a restroom line, or risk a DUI afterwards. Best decision of my life. 5 years later and still sober. Thanks PJ for being that good. I guess I gave up one addiction for another.

amazing day and show. I remember the weather being absolutely perfect - like 75 and not a cloud in the sky - i also remember it being the first good day like all month that year. I just remember April being such a lousy month weather-wise that year then the 28th came and the weather was perfect. I think that is part of why the crowd was so damn good that night. Everyone was in a great spring time mood, the beers flowed and went down so easily in the tailgate, then PJ came out and tore it up right from the get-go with Crazy Mary. Just amazing energy that night. Been to 15 shows and nothing has come close to that crowd and that night. And who can forget Ed's awesome Dr. J story - 'his hand just kept going and going and going....'
this one though, from the perfect weather (stark contrast to today), to the eagles announcing they resigned brian dawkins, to the tailgate, to the amazing show----wow. if one could draw up the perfect day, i would have to say this would be definitely be right up there....

*oops edit - Uniondale was 4/30**
Yeah my review of THAT show is very different!
Five years-UGH! Ridonkulous how fast time passes.
