Hey there guys, what are your thoughts on the wonder that is Beck?? I love his music, most of it's great to chill out to. He's written such a diverse range of music and even his new stuff manages to be fairly original.
So yeah, likes? Dislikes? Reasoning? Fave songs? :P

Beck is a phenom..........my favorite album is Sea Change, great tunes on there. Guero and Odelay are great in a different way. He's in my top 10 fave artists.
There's a trapdoor in the sun.
  • If a song could be cute then Earthquake weather so would be.

Quite liking Mutations atm. For a self-proclaimed filler album, it's really good!

  • Beck is one of the great artists of the past 90s and 00s. I very much prefer Sea Change & Mutations to say Odelay or Guero but, all in all he's an incredible musician.

"Lord Only Knows" is my favorite song of his, one of my favorite by any artist actually. "Lost Cause" is amazing as well.

I love his diversity, I find myself going back to his music a lot because no matter what mood I am in, he seems to have an album for it. If I am feeling more laid back I can put in Sea Change or Mutationis. If I want a little more rocking stuff I can go towards Mellow Gold or Odelay. Midnight Vultures is just out there, not exactly sure what mood it takes for that one.

Guero is great, I wasn't too sure of him trying to recreate his early sounds. But it ended up sounding like a grown up version of Odelay, a nice mix of his different styles.
  • Beck is the fuckin' man. I finally got to see him live a couple of weeks ago, amazing. My favorite record is probably 'Mellow Gold' or 'Odelay'. Fav. songs - Beercan, Lord Only Knows, Jack-ass, Golden Age, Farewell Ride. Gonna go pack a pipe know, thanks.
Are you too good to tango with the poor poor boys?
  • Beck kicks ass. He has a real nice voice, imo.

Beck is one of my favorite artists and is also an inspiration to me as a musician. Some of the first songs I ever learned on acoustic guitar were his (Puttin It Down, Rowboat, Jackass).

He's got a lot of great stuff that haven't made it on any of his albums - Corvette Bummer, Fume, Runners Dial Zero, MTV Makes Me Want to Smoke Crack, In A Cold Ass Fashion, etc - he needs to put that stuff out all on one CD.

  • I've owned Odelay for years and didn't really listen to it much until I bought Sea Change....now I can't get enough of him. Soooo talented. I've never seen him live but have a friend who is a fellow PJ fan and she ranks him right up there with her front row spot at a PJ show as the best show she's ever seen.

Oh yeah, I should add that my 12 yr. old daughter listens to Odelay constantly, if I can't find it in my case, I know where to find it. ;)

Golden Feelings A Western Harvest By Moonlight
    Stereopathetic Soulmanure
    One Foot IN The Grave
Especially One foot, really good for chillin, plus the hundred b-sides from that era and mellow gold era, they are less with the times so they arn't too dated.

sEawater, painted eyelids, hollow log, might good leader, land beyond are great, kind of pointless without the stimulants though, or was it depressants?

Odealy is dated. Sea Change is four melodies reworked into twelve songs but its ok. Mutations is excellent, especially LAzy Flies, bottle of blues etc, and Guero is pretty good, I like some of the remixes more than the originals, if you could call many of them that. Midnight Vultures had integrity, but missed a bit, the vocals were too wack. Some can hear Marylin Manson in them, that says enough. The live show for that record was...well I just dont know. All in all, keeping it real may or may not allow me to ever play a Beck record again, but thats life..

I always liked and was trhilled by the cover of Mutations, don't know why, it took a long time but I finally bought it, I loved it from the beginning to the end, Nobody's fault, Tropicalia, Oh Maria, Static and the hidden tracks (what are their names by the way?), I downloaded, not legaly, downloaded some others, I didn't like Mellow gold or Sea change, Midnight voltures was ok, but The Information is completely awesome... and since I always liked The new pollution, I bought Odelay, and I got the Deluxe Edition, it really really good, Lord only knows, Derelict, Ramshackle, I completely forgot about Deadweight, I loved that song at the time, and when I listened to it again, I was thrilled... and the disc 2 have some cool bsides but what I like the most are the live acoustic songs at the end of disc 2

I guess you got many different points of you, hope this helps...
... I am not in the business of being liked anymore ...
