"I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"
Not the way I do it. A lot of my favourite albums are ones I wasn't initially impressed with.
i guess i wasn't as clear as i thought i was. just because i'll listen to an album all the way through doesn't mean i was impressed with it or that it won me over, just that i felt that there was 'something' there that warranted a second listen - if that makes sense.
plenty of times i've listened to an album a 2nd, 3rd or 4th time and then just realized it was crap.
in the end i like what i like and don't like what i don't like. i'm not going to listen to something over and over and over to TRY to like something just because someone else says it is good or cool or whatever.
Nice list - you have every single one of my top albums of the year on there. I only have about 80 on my good list and I've probably listened to 100 albums total.
I kick the crap ones to the curb and then rank the ones that I liked. Usually I cut the list into pieces to designate that my top 20 or so were a cut above the rest.
But to the person that said "why do we feel the need to post lists at the end of the year?"
I REALLY appreciate lists, because I love music and it gives me the opportunity to discover things that I wouldn't have found before - or give 2nd chances to things that I may have dismissed too early.
So, thanks for the 161 albums!
Are we getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?
I find 'In Rainbows' to be a passionate, soulful, beautiful album, and to be the best one of 2007. I'd have to say the opposite about The National. Kind of a snoozer which blends all together.

What a crappy list so many shit bands on there. Btw Arcade Fire is one of the most over hyped bands ever. I mean do people, not pay attention to songwriting and singers with passion anymore? So many bands on that list that are pure garbage.
My list
-Velvet Revolver-Libertad
-Eddie Vedder-Into the wild
-Chris Cornell-Carry on
-Matthew Good-Hospital Music
-Sebastian Bach-Angel down
-David Usher-Strange birds
-Foo Fighters-Echos
-Bruce Springsteen-Magic
-Robert Plant and Alison Kraus
I have it, very good record, but I left that and a few others off because technically they came out in 2006 outside the US, and rather than deal with the internal dilemma of figuring out how to deal with them, I just left them off.

oh yeh didnt think about the diff release dates thing
i think this phrase dismisses any worries i had about your efforts!
thorough work sir! i didnt even know there were 161 albums released in the year!
Mine, apparently. Did you listen to the Holly Golightly record?
And the sewers are all muddied with a thousand lonely suicides
yeah... I know.... it's just a matter of taste
It was a painful listen. It was worse than the Ween country album and at least the Ween country album made me chuckle.
It's just bad...and I'm thinkin BOH should be a lot higher.
Overall it's a good list....it's your list though...
I can kinda dig some similarities out of this ranking with my opinions,
glad to see Okkervil River up there.
I just kind of thought "Cease to Begin" was too much like "Everything All The Time", Part 2. Certainly not bad, though.
I liked the Holly Golightly record for some reason, probably because of "Crow Long".
And yeah, that Okkervil River record is amazing.
