"One Hundred Years" from the album Pornography

It doesn't matter if we all die
Ambition in the back of a black car
In a high building there is so much to do
    Going home time
    A story on the radio

Something small falls out of your mouth
    And we laugh
    A prayer for something better
    A prayer
    For something better

    Please love me
    Meet my mother
    But the fear takes hold
Creeping up the stairs in the dark
    Waiting for the death blow
    Waiting for the death blow
    Waiting for the death blow

Stroking your hair as the patriots are shot
    Fighting for freedom on television
Sharing the world with slaughtered pigs
    Have we got everything?
She struggles to get away . . .

    The pain
    And the creeping feeling
    A little black haired girl
    Waiting for Saturday
The death of her father pushing her
Pushing her white face into the mirror
    Aching inside me
    And turn me round
    Just like the old days
    Just like the old days
    Just like the old days
    Just like the old days

    Caressing an old man
    And painting a lifeless face
Just a piece of new meat in a clean room
The soldiers close in under a yellow moon
    All shadows and deliverance
    Under a black flag
    A hundred years of blood
    Crimson
The ribbon tightens round my throat
    I open my mouth
    And my head bursts open
A sound like a tiger thrashing in the water
    Thrashing in the water
    Over and over
We die one after the other
    Over and over
We die one after the other
    One after the other
    One after the other
    One after the other
    One after the other

It feels like a hundred years
    A hundred years
    A hundred years
    A hundred years
    A hundred years
    One hundred years

This one is also awesome and impressive... just like the album it comes from...

A few things come close to the pleasant shock that is hearing this tune live... a few groups come close to compete with the cure live. Just the weekend got me a boot of them playing an acoustic concert in Paris, beautiful!

I love this song too, but my favorite is From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea.

The Cure's lyrics are poetry, even without the music. Amazing songwriting.

    That song acoustic... wow!!!
It's not better than the electric live version, but certainly gains a new life.
And yeah, Robert has many years being one of the strongest lyricists around.

  • This thread is in dire need of a BUMP!

I've been listening to Galore a lot over the last few weeks and just absolutely love this song.

It's so gorgeous in those ways that can't be compared to any other. It's one all in its own. Really shows just how incredibly passionate Robert is about what he writes. Such a phenomenal lyricist, if not, gorgeous poet with the way it so intricately laces through out his writings.

And to go more in depth the flow of the music in itself, wow! That loose vibe from the guitars into the drumming and that Bass?! Incredibly flawless.

This song is perfection in every which way, and to those who have never heard it, pleeease make sure you get the opportunity to do so, and to those that have, give it another spin, it's so worthwhile. :D

The Dinosaur Jr. version of this song rocks so hard.

Although the screaming grates on my nerves like no other. Fucking Lou Barlow.

This is the song that made me fall in love with the Cure. Up until that point I held out thinking I didn't want to get lumped in with all the goth types by saying I loved them. Couldn't resist after Just Like Heaven. That song will hold up forever. It is absolutely beautiful. Pictures of You and the Close to Me re-mix are probably my other favorites.
