The Pumpkins are hitting the road for their 20th Anniversary and will be performing what sounds like a pretty kick ass, unique show. Below are the dates, venues, and some info from a press release:

Oct. 2 - Mountain View, CA (Bridge School Benefit)
Nov. 1 - Cleveland, OH
Nov. 3 - Toronto, Canada
Nov. 4 - Toronto, Canada
Nov. 6 - New York City, NY
Nov. 7 - New York City, NY
Nov. 8 - Atlantic City, NJ
Nov. 11 - Washington, DC
Nov. 12 - Washington, DC
Nov. 14 - Boston, MA
Nov. 15 - Boston, MA Nov. 16 - Uncasville, CT
Nov. 18 - Chicago, IL
Nov. 19 - Chicago, IL
Nov. 21 - Chicago, IL
Nov. 22 - Chicago, IL
Nov. 26 - St. Louis, MO
Nov. 29 - Las Vegas, NV
Nov. 30 - San Diego, CA
Dec. 2 - San Diego, CA
Dec. 3 - San Diego, CA

The five-week run will be highlighted by multi-night stops in such cities as Chicago, Toronto, New York, Washington, Boston, Kansas City and Los Angeles. With such a vast repertoire, the Pumpkins are coming prepared with completely different set lists in each of the multi-night engagements with no songs being repeated over the course of the two night run. Night #1 is being called “Black Sunshine,” while night #2 will be dubbed “White Crosses.” A special two-night ticket bundle will be available for all multi-night engagements.

In Chicago — where singer/guitarist Billy Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin continue to be based — the Pumpkins will play four shows at two different venues. In cities where the band is set to play one night, they plan to deliver a unique one-off set. …

The Pumpkins have also confirmed a national television appearance for Friday, October 24 when they’ll perform “G.L.O.W.” on the outdoor stage at ABC-TV’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”

I'm stoked!!!! Now if they'd only come to Seattle.... looks like I'm headed to SD baby!

I would guess a couple of those San Diego nights are for Los Angeles?
  • the last two SD dates are LA shows at Gibson...How kick ass that would be to have a 3 night stand to end it here though...

I wish they were in Toronto on a Friday and Saturday instead of two work days.

  • I saw them in DC last night and don't think I've ever been as disappointed in a show. I was so excited to see them again, and Billy and Jimmy played very well, but the setlist was...ummm...interesting. Granted I would consider myself a casual fan, but I only knew very few songs. The ones I did recognize were not good. They kind of blew threw them like they didn't even want to be bothered to play them. The crowd was less than pleased. Just over a two and a half hour set.

Anyone else see them on this tour? What did you think? Drove about five hours to this and will not be doing that again...

  • I will not be able to see this tour but from watching the new movie I think it's pretty apparent that Billy is not out to give the fans what they want. He's moving forward, writing and experimenting. I saw them at bridge and thought it was rad, even though I only knew 3 of 7 songs (and I own practically everything) and they had Josh Groban sing the one mainstream song, Disolve. It was clearly an artistic endeavor that put the music first and the audience nostalgia trips second.
I'm not bashing those who are disappointed, I understand, especially as a fan of a band like PJ that goes out of their way for their fans. This is just a different trip.
Using the word "methinks" in your message board posts doesn't make you look smart.

I hear you. I don't know why they're even calling the band "Smashing Pumpkins", What they're doing now is miles away from Gish and Siamese Dream. I liked a good portion of Mellon Collie, but I think Billy Corgan has waaaaay to big an ego for some of the crap he's been putting out lately. He should stick to doing soundtracks for video games and goth sci-fi movies and call it a day.

How are you such a big Pumpkins fan, i.e. own practically everyting, and mistake "Disarm" for "Disolve?"

  • I bought tickets for the 12/2 show in Los Angeles, then started seeing the setlists for some of the "Black Sunshine" shows and decided that I wasn't really interested. I'm now in the process of trying to trade the 12/2 tickets for 12/3 tickets -- the "White Crosses" shows look to be much more of my taste.

    Case in point:

    New York / Black Sunshine:

    Setlist:

    1. Roctopus
    2. Everybody Clap Your Hands
    3. Tarantula
    4. G.L.O.W.
    5. Siva
    6. Eye
    7. Mayonaise
    8. Tonight, Tonight
    9. Speed Kills
    10. Transformer
    11. Superchrist
    12. United States
    13. Once Upon A Time
    14. The Crux
    15. The Rose March
    16. Today
    17. Bullet with Butterfly Wings
    18. The Beginning is the End is the Beginning
    19. Heavy Metal Machine
    20. Glass
    21. Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun

    Encore
    22. We Only Come Out at Night
    23. Everything is Beautiful

    New York / White Crosses:

    Setlist

    1. Ava Adore
    2. Cupid de Locke
    3. 1979
    4. 99 Floors
    5. Owata
    6. Sunkissed
    7. Soma
    8. Cherub Rock
    9. Zero
    10. Bodies
    11. Crestfallen
    12. I of the Mourning
    13. A Song for a Son
    14. Landslide
    15. Disarm
    16. Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness
    17. Galapogos
    18. Gossamer
    19. As Rome Burns
    20. The Sounds of Silence
    21. The March Hare
    22. Suffer
    23. Age of Innocence

    Encore
    24. That's The Way (My Love Is)
    25. I Am One Part 2

I don't know...the second night just "does" it for me much more.

Saw them at Bridge School, only recognized 3 songs, but thought they were awesome. I really love Billy's voice when he goes soft. Bridge had a lot of horns, violins, etc. -- I'm hoping for that during White Crosses, too.

  • By the way, did anyone see the setlist for their "surprise" Halloween show? That must have been, well, really weird.

    5. Gingger's Raga
    6. The Gambler
    7. Lizard Blues
    8. In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida
    9. Gingger's Rage Return

    Electric Set
    10. Tarantula
    11. G.L.O.W.
    12. Siva
    13. Speed Kills
    14. Superchrist

    22. Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun

Apparently it didn't go over with the crowd very well, either:

    Review:
OK, I have waited almost a week to post this review, but I cannot be silent any longer. This was one of the WORST concerts I have ever attended. To start off, the Acoustic set was a joke. Pretty much a middle-finger to the fans in my opinion. They announce a Special One Night Acoustic show and you expect acoustic Smashing Pumpkins songs, not a bunch of lame cover songs. These guys have a ton of acoustic material they could have played, but instead we got a bunch of crap. The best song from the acoustic set was "The Gambler" and the worst was probably "In A Gada Da Vida". For it, it looked like they just pulled one of their roadies out there to sing it. It was horrible and we were all BOOING at them. It was PATHETIC and if you don't believe me, BUY THE CD when it becomes available. The Live set gets a C- rating at the most. Only songs that sounded good were Tarantula, Today and Bullet. And even those were not very good. This is the second time I have seen the Pumpkins here in Columbus and it is the second time we have been shafted. The last time (October 2007) it was freezing cold and it was an outdoor concert. Billy complained his fingers were numb and we got a crappy setlist. I just wish now I would have listed my tickets on ebay. I could have doubled my money and had a much better Halloween. Needless to say, I dont think I will be attending any more Smashing Pumpkins concerts. Sorry guys, but you sucked.
