I always picture those people in the crowds at REM shows who hold each other tight and look into each other's eyes and sing the words and have this deep meaningful moment to a song that is clearly not a love song. That's all.

Anyway they can think whatever and interpret it anyway they want...I don't really see a problem to it IMO, well I just don't care. It's a song. To Each His Own. If it makes them happy and it has a different special meaning to them, then so be it.
