Anyone else here really dig this band?!!! "Yeah dig!" as Ed sings in "Counting the Days." I don't know, they're so simple, but they have a really pure and groovy sound and I love their lyrics. The band has always been about writing songs and making good music that they enjoy. I'm listening to "Hints, Allegations, and Things Left Unsaid" right now and am really groovin' along to "Reach." So c'mon!!! Let's show some love for Collective Soul!! They're in the studio right now so they'll have a new album out soon!!!

They are pretty solid, saw them in concert last summer.

I have the self-titled album and their greatest hits album. They're slightly generic but they write a good pop hook. Is there a "respect for Collective Soul" thread? Ah, screw it. This thread will do. They're a good band.

    i did too. great show.
  • I've seen them twice (opening for Aerosmith in 1994 and as part of a festival in 1999), plus I have their hits cd. I like them, not the way I love Pearl Jam, but I do like them.

Don't love this band like I do Pearl Jam, but still have a lot of love for them!!! Dosage is their best album IMO, but Youth was incredible also. Have always loved songs like "Needs," "She Said," "Shine," "Bleed," "Blame," "There's a Way," "How Do You Love?" "Gel," and "Sister, Don't Cry." Ah man, awesome band. I loved the Home CD/DVD, excellent performance!!

  • I like em every now and then. I saw them a couple years ago w/ Better than Ezra. Front row center actually. They both put on a pretty great show.

They're pretty good in my book. They also put on a good live show. Typical 90 minutes, but fun!

Listening to Disciplined Breakdown right now...great great morning album. I hope to see them on their next tour. I unfortunately missed the last one. I almost saw them in '05 but I refused to go to a rock concert until I saw Pearl Jam first!! But anyways, yeah they seem to be a pretty kickass live band. Does anyone know what happened to their old lead guitarist Ross and their old drummer Shane? I've been wondering this for quite a while...

Well, that might explain why Ed's divorced now...damn, that's pretty harsh. Ross was a great guitarist too. I like Joel a lot, but Ross had this energy to him that was awesome!

Yeah they have some amazing albums!!! I'd ranked their albums like so...

    Dosage
    Youth
    Collective Soul
    From the Ground Up (EP)
    Disciplined Breakdown
Hints, Allegations, and Things Left Unsaid
    Blender

But be sure to check out the live performance Home. Best version of Shine is on there!!!

  • I still say "Unemployable" is what a Pearl Jam / Collective Soul collaboration would sound like.

Imagine what it would be like having an actual collaboration between both Ed's singing together. What song would they sing together?!

It is funny how many singers there are named Ed, but we must remember that Mr. Vedder gives "the best 'Ed'" :D

Their live show is pretty bad ass too. I saw them headline a festival with like 15 other bands back in 99, and I thought collective soul was bad ass. I'm glad I got to see them with the original line up (I believe Ross Childress was fired, maybe brought back in yes, no) ? Anyway great live show, and a very underated band in my opinion. :)

Someone said earlier that Ross was sleeping with Ed's wife...so now Joel Koesche is their lead guitarist. Joel has some nice parts on Youth, definately brings a different vibe to the band, great guitarist IMO. Not sure why Shane Evans left, but now Ryan Hoyle is their drummer who has only appeared on their live album/dvd "Home." Anyways I'm hoping to see them live at some point in the near future. It seems that a lot of PJ fans are also CS fans so that makes me happy :D
