down on the upside was the most brilliant piece of work he was ever featured on. everything just fit so beautifully and flowingly. the lyrics, the music, the vocals, the production, the phsychedelic touch to it, and just ahh everything!

I've never really had time for down on the upside, well, besides burden in my hand and pretty noose.

Do you think it's an album worth giving more time to?

I think DOTU is decent. The fact that Boot Camp is just 2 mins or so is absoutely criminal. I think there are a lot of songs on this album that had real potential, the biggest of those been Never The Machine Forever. Does anyone else here really love that few seconds of bass at the start but thinks the actual song is a bit 'meh'?

But Burden in my Hand, Pretty Noose and Ty Cobb are some of Soundgardens best. Fuck you all.
  • it is such a great album. Chris Cornell has one the greatest musical catalogs of rock music and this very well might be the highest point. with eupohria morning a close second.

I'm still drawn in to Superunknown as my fav. Soundgarden album. I mean, hell, Like Suicide was GENIUS!!! Also a big fan of Fresh Tendrils, Limo Wreck, Superunknown, and The Day I Tried to Live.

But yeah Down on the Upside is definately a masterpiece as well.

oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

    he sucks
  • This is one of my favourite albums of all time. The lyrics are great too, although he is my favourite lyrics writer anyway.

To the thread starter: This is not a bad thread actually. It's a bit different from the other ones.

    Respect to Chris Cornell
  • Have to say, you could well be right about dotu and em being his high water marks.

DOTU is harder to get into than the other soundgarden albums but is more rewarding. Its so quirky, I love it. All SG records were unique though...

DOTU is great from start to finish.
Who cares if the world is going down the toilet? Eddie Vedder got his mojo back!
  • I Love DOTU!!
