For me it would probably be between jeff buckley - hallelujah and johnny cash- hurt, i could only think of a few great ones though and hardly there are hardly any in my music collection, so what does everyone else think the best cover song is?

  • Although I don't normally dig Marilyn Manson, I like his cover of Depeche Mode's 'Personal Jesus'.

And Kermit does a good version of 'Hurt':

I was going to say Hurt by Cash is my favourite but you've already said it.

I love Kim Gordon's screachy version of 'Let Me Be Your Dog'. :D I love that one.

I couldn't watch all of that which was a shame. It looked really funny. Mind you, I wouldn't be surprised if he hurt himself as he was going out with that cow Miss Piggy. (Excuse the pun).

Johnny Cash singing Hurt has to be the best cover...
It gave me chills the 1st time I heard it. He took the song and made it his own.

No one has said it is better? :)

Not a superfan of that song. But I enjoy both. Long time since I heard the WS version though.

Not that you people not knowing Swedish care,

But I ADORE Joakim Thåströms cover of Men bara om min älskade väntar (But only if my one true loved one is waiting) which is a cover of super famous swedish progg rock band Nationalteatern who "translated"  the Bob Dylan song Tomorrow is a long time

I could also add just about any cover that Greg Dulli has done, either with the Afghan Whigs, Twilight Singers, or Gutter Twins.

    Come See About Me
My World Is Empty Without You / I Hear A Symphony
If There’s Hell Below (We’re All Going To Go)
    See And Don't See
    Lovecrimes
    Regret

The list goes on and on...

  • Don't think Ryan Adams Down in the hole cover (studio version) is much to write home about. Doesn't add much or take the song in any interisng direction. The same with his Wonderwall cover. Even though Ryan Adams always sound great ofc.

    This is amazing though :)

Also, I'm gonna be that guy and say that Johnny Cash's cover of NIN "Hurt" is downright god fucking awful.
