Isn't this one of Dylan's most heartfelt lyrics?
Just had the need to post this one today, if you like it, comment

YOU'RE GONNA MAKE ME LONESOME WHEN YOU GO

I've seen love go by my door
It's never been this close before
Never been so easy or so slow.
Been shooting in the dark too long
When somethin's not right it's wrong
Yer gonna make me lonesome when you go.

Dragon clouds so high above
I've only known careless love,
It's always hit me from below.
This time around it's more correct
Right on target, so direct,
Yer gonna make me lonesome when you go.

Purple clover, Queen Anne lace,
Crimson hair across your face,
You could make me cry if you don't know.
Can't remember what I was thinkin' of
You might be spoilin' me too much, love,
Yer gonna make me lonesome when you go.

Flowers on the hillside, bloomin' crazy,
Crickets talkin' back and forth in rhyme,
Blue river runnin' slow and lazy,
I could stay with you forever
And never realize the time.

Situations have ended sad,
Relationships have all been bad.
Mine've been like Verlaine's and Rimbaud.
But there's no way I can compare
All those scenes to this affair,
Yer gonna make me lonesome when you go.

Yer gonna make me wonder what I'm doin',
Stayin' far behind without you.
Yer gonna make me wonder what I'm sayin',
Yer gonna make me give myself a good talkin' to.

I'll look for you in old Honolulu,
San Francisco, Ashtabula,
Yer gonna have to leave me now, I know.
But I'll see you in the sky above,
In the tall grass, in the ones I love,
Yer gonna make me lonesome when you go.

well, no way in hell I can pass up a Blood on the Tracks related thread. After the brain drain of finishing up Idiot Wind, this song is welcome because it almost give you a glimmer of hope. the roller coaster is going up at this point though slowly. Thank goodness it does on occasion because I have to prepare for the end of the disc which renders me speechless.

I now have chills, have gone through lyrically every song on the disc and will remain flabergasted why BOTT isn't considered the greatest living recorded musical/lyrical document in history.

Not to let on how "young" I am, but this album means a lot to me....esp. this particular track....It was one of those albums I listened to a lot after a particularly painful break-up.....a long time ago.....

Glad to see that other people like it as much....it's a great record. :-)
  • This one gives me shivers everytime i hear it. and for no reason whatsoever can i relate to it but it still makes me wanna cry!!!!!!

If you see her, say hello, she might be in Tangier
She left here last early spring, is livin' there, I hear
Say for me that I'm all right though things get kind of slow
She might think that I've forgotten her, don't tell her it isn't so.

We had a falling-out, like lovers often will
And to think of how she left that night, it still brings me a chill
And though our separation, it pierced me to the heart
She still lives inside of me, we've never been apart.

If you get close to her, kiss her once for me
I always have respected her for busting out and gettin' free
Oh, whatever makes her happy, I won't stand in the way
Though the bitter taste still lingers on from the night I tried to make her stay.

I see a lot of people as I make the rounds
And I hear her name here and there as I go from town to town
And I've never gotten used to it, I've just learned to turn it off
Either I'm too sensitive or else I'm gettin' soft.

Sundown, yellow moon, I replay the past
I know every scene by heart, they all went by so fast
If she's passin' back this way, I'm not that hard to find
Tell her she can look me up if she's got the time.

  • and my mother walked down the aisle to this............

May God bless and keep you always,
May your wishes all come true,
May you always do for others
And let others do for you.
May you build a ladder to the stars
    And climb on every rung,
    May you stay forever young,
    Forever young, forever young,
    May you stay forever young.

May you grow up to be righteous,
May you grow up to be true,
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you.
    May you always be courageous,
    Stand upright and be strong,
    May you stay forever young,
    Forever young, forever young,
    May you stay forever young.

May your hands always be busy,
May your feet always be swift,
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift.
May your heart always be joyful,
May your song always be sung,
    May you stay forever young,
    Forever young, forever young,
    May you stay forever young.

this is exactly how I feel about the whole disc. I have no idea what a divorce (or a painful breakup) is like, however I feel like I went thru a virtual one every time I play it. The version if If You See Her acoustically on the Bootleg 1-3 series is even more powerful.

There are parts of Idiot Wind that I can't sing out loud.

    Good ol' transplant, my friend.

Yeah, there's no way to miss Blood on the Tracks, is so close to perfection... and so full of raw emotion, just so many good tunes together almost seems like crazy, Tangled Up In Blue, Shelter from the Storm, Simple Twist of Fate and some of my particular Dylan songs ever: Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts, You're a Big Girl Now, If You See Her, Say Hello and well, the one this thread is about.

The amazing thing is how you're mesmerized when you go back to a song you haven't heard in a while and suddenly being amazed for how much it speaks to you in a personal level, how you completely get what it's about and is like if you were listening to it for the first time... that's just happened to me with this song... and you know, even the obvious meaning would be it's about two lovers, I also think about it as how sort of melancholic is to say goodbye to the things and persons that you love, your friends, your parents, why not even a dog...but also maybe saying goodbye to a good time of your life, to a beautyness that you know will be hard to achive again or just realizing you're getting old and some things you used to do or like will never be the same again.

Happiness, or beauty in general, I think work that way, you're stunned by them in such a big way, that once they pass it seems almost impossible that such a brief moment in time could contain such intense feelings.

I think this afternoon I'm gonna fall sleep while listening to the mesmerizing tunes of Blood on the Tracks... and I need to sleep soooo badly.

Cheers, everyone, and... THE LITERATURE NOBEL AWARD TO DYLAN!!!!

I actually think this one is my absolute favorite Dylan song, the images, the feeling, what he's saying and how he's saying it...
Just reading those lyrics on this screen put me on this emotional state that's so hard to describe... like if time just stops.
    A toast to this song!

Have you ever listened to a song 10 times in a row, non stop?
I did that with this one tonight... like a trip on some drug... but better.
    Good night to the world...

This verse from shelter from the storm makes me so sad, I don't know why I can't explain it but it just really speaks to me

"Suddenly I turned around and she was standing there,
wth silver bracelets on her wrists and flowers in her hair,
she walked up to me so gracefully, and took my crown of thorns,
"come in", she said "I'll give ya shelter from the storm"
"I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"
